So I tried to install a second hand GPU last time, and now that I'm trying again, I'd like to get some problems adressed before even beginning, that occured last time.

So first off, the specs:
I have an AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon HD graphics (4.70 Hz),
Motherboard is: MSI A78M-E35 (MS-7721) (P0)
I don't currently have GPU installed, but the one I was going to install is the
(Nvidia) GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 D5 2G

It should be noted that it seems impossible to properly uninstall my existing graphics driver-- even after using various uninstall tools the screen never gets that typical MOBO graphics look, like in safe mode. Is this some sort of autodownload thing of AMD's that I don't know of? By any means I'd love to know.

So I plugged in the card and couldn't find the right cables ( they were hidden in some obscure corner in the computer), so after booting the pc only the fans worked. Once I did eventually find the cables and plugged them in, the computer automatically shut down and wouldnt boot again until switched off completely. After about 3 times of this, the card completely fried itself ( you could smell it. ) During the few times it actually ran it never showed up in the hardware monitor or anything. Is it a rubbish card, or is something off about the motherboard?

All in all a step by step guide with these issues in mind would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The 1050 does not have any analog signal out.

If you're using just the cheap plug through dvi to VGA adapters like this that used to come with gpu's that's why you're not getting any display.

If your monitor is VGA only then you need to purchase an active HDMI to VGA adapter.

There it is.
Could you recommend me one?

Update: Good news! The fans do spin. The card is recognized, fans are running, everything seems to be fine about the card this time. I'll try that adapter and report back tomorrow when I get it. Anything else?

^ doesn't matter , fm2 just reduces the PCI express lanes to 2x standard.

Absolute non issue , with 1080ti you'd only lose 2% performance , with a 1050 there ia no performance loss at all.

The adapter will 99.99999% likely solve the problem.

I'd personally be dragging that PC down to the lounge TV & connecting via HDMI for 5 minutes just to see it work

Unfortunately both amd & nvidia removed analog decoding hardware from their latest card ranges

This means that straight VGA adapters just don't work anymore.
I have no idea why they did it , it probably save a couple of dollar manufacture costs per card at best.

But that's the reason you see a huge amount of those activa VGA adapters now for sale on amazon & eBay , before these cards there was very little demand for these converters , now they sell like wildfire because there are a lot of people in the same position as you.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the information!

But didn't we -just- establish that that type of one wouldn't work? Or am I getting that wrong

If you think that one will do, I'll just take it. I've been on this issue for far too long. I can spare the bucks. I already have had to cancel two previous orders due to uncertainty 😛

Good news guys-- the adapter works, and the cfard now outputs a signal. the screen however looks of quite low quality and isn't properly centered. I'll be using the software installation disk that came with the card now, keep you posted.
