Hi all,
I recently built a new PC and have been facing crashes and stability issues. Here are the specs:
TL;DR: Initial stability tests passed, but crashes in games led me to rerun tests. Can't pinpoint which component is causing the issue.

I recently built a new PC and have been facing crashes and stability issues. Here are the specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9600X
- CPU Cooler: Thermalright phantom spirit
- GPU: PNY RTX 4070 TI Super
- PSU: Corsair RM1000x (2021)
- RAM: Corsair vengeance 6000mhz CL30 32 (2x16) GB
- SSD: Kingston KC3000 2TB
TL;DR: Initial stability tests passed, but crashes in games led me to rerun tests. Can't pinpoint which component is causing the issue.
Troubleshooting steps taken:
- Verifying all power connections
- Reinstalled drivers using DDU method (stable and latest versions)
- Tested with and without EXPO enabled
- Swapped in an old, working GPU, also tested with the iGPU
- Ran stress tests: OCCT suite, FurMark, MemTest86/86+, TestMem5 (Extreme1 @ anta777), Prime95 etc.
- Tested RAM sticks individually
- Monitored voltages/temperatures during crashes (all within safe ranges).
Quick timeline:
- PC passed initial stress tests (OCCT suite, FurMark) and was stable during ~10 minutes of light gaming
- Stable for a week of non-gaming use
- Consistent crashes began in games (RoR2 after 2-5 min; Hades after ~15 min), requiring hard reboots
- Stability tests (OCCT CPU+RAM, Prime95) began failing after 2-5 minutes, even when using iGPU
- Further testing revealed mixed results, with occasional stability in longer tests.
Quick breakdown/my thoughts:
- PSU:
- Reputable and new
- Crashes occur across GPUs and even on iGPU (Sometimes withstand high power, sometimes crashes at lower power draw)
- Crash type often attributed to PSU not being able to deliver enough power
- RAM:
- Passed many RAM specific tests (Memtest86/86+, TestMem5 Extreme1 etc.) with no errors consistently
- Individually survived 8 hours of prime95 at some point
- Conflicting results in Prime95: crashes early in some runs but survives long sessions in others.
- CPU:
- Passed extended Prime95 and OCCT CPU Extreme in some runs.
- Second in line to be blamed for other Prime95 crashes if not RAM
- MOBO:
- Could possibly contribute to instability with RAM or CPU?
- General / Whole system
- Passed extended OCCT Combined and Prime95 runs during some sessions.
- Stable when not gaming or testing
- Main crash type: Hard reboot (screen goes black, sound continues for 1-2 seconds, then system reboots).
- Event Viewer Logs: Often implicate other drivers (e.g., NVIDIA, Realtek) but consistently show volmgr and Kernel-Power errors.
- There were times where GPU wouldn't post into windows, only into BIOS, including not posting at all for a little bit. Reseating GPU, cables and RAM seemed to fix it.
