WARNING: Retro gaming!!

Anyway, I recently got my dads old 1992 original 16bit sega megadrive out as it has been in the cupboard for years. I like to consider myself as quite an avid technology user but I did not recognise the cables! I worked out that it used an RF cable to attach to the tv. I connected it and everything worked fine. Apart from the fact that the graphics were so fuzzy it was very hard to actually play games. ( I was using Sonic 2 to test the console).

Next, I checked the connection strength and it measured very low. I have read that RF cables degrade over time. I remembered that the DVD player is fairly old and also used RF cables. When I used this cable, I found it was much better, however the image was still a littlest fuzzy! I don't get a fuzzy image on the DVD player when I use it through the other TVs which it was in. The TVs read excellent signal with this RF cable even though it was still a bit fuzzy.

I have not tried it on the other television yet but will give an update when I do. What could be the problem? The TV, console or RF cable?

Should I use a different cable to attach it to the TV? E.g. RF to SCART. I would prefer not to spend much if possible but thanks to any contributions to this thread!

Solution
Hello. Glad to see someone with a nice piece of retro. ^^ First of all, what do you mean by fuzzy? Random lines of static? Or just plain softness? If you use a flat panel TV for retro gaming, you will be disappointed.

Also, the best way to connect this console is through the AV output. It should look like this:

RF is just fuzzy by nature, composite is better. The absolute best cable is SCART, or RGB to be exact:
RGB scart

Haha, yes, it goes in the middle port. If you have scart in your area, I suggest you use that, it's the best quality. If you still have static though, your power supply might need some repairs. Try the scart cable first and report us back. ^^
