I have Windows 7 Home Premium with aero enabled but the selection box on the desktop isn't blue but Windows XP style. It's not important, but bugging me! What causes this problem, and how can I fix it?

I had the same problem and it turns out it was a performance setting.

Right click on Computer->Proprieties, then click on "Advanced system settings", then go in the "Advanced" tab, and click on the first "Settings", in the performance group. Try ticking all the checkboxes and apply. It did the trick for me.

What do you mean by that? I have changed my appearance to all the available options and it's still the same, if you mean that?

I have a AMD Radeon HD 6650M 2GB graphics card. But it worked for a long time and now it stopped.

To resolve this issue you need to Right+Click your desktop and click Personalize. When the Personalization appears click Window Color at the bottom of the screen, following, click the Advanced Appearance Settings... blue hyperlink. When the Window Color and Appearance appears, Change the Item selection box below to Hyperlink and change the second color option to whatever, apply and test selection box. To change the border of your selection box, select the item, Selected Items and change the first color. Apply, test settings.

If configuration is acceptable, Ok out and close out any other windows used in the process to clear up the screen, you should be all set.

If the issue was resolved please mark the best solution on this thread please, I need my forum achievements. 😛

Didn't work. :-(

Make sure your Aero theme is functioning correctly, Start > Type "Troubleshooting" then select Troubleshooting. Under Appearance and Personalization select Display Aero desktop effects and troubleshoot if necessary

It says that my graphics card doesn't support aero, but it did before. I have also updated my drivers and still the same.

And it's perfectly normal for this to happen. This just means that somewhere along the lines the video driver was corrupt or damaged in someway, How? I couldn't tell ya. Best to re-download the driver made for your display adapter. Make sure that you remove any variants of your driver from Programs and Features and also uninstall the device driver from your Device Manager. Start > Type "devmgmt.msc" > expand Display Adapters > Right+Click your video adapter, select Uninstall > If prompted to delete the driver, check the box to delete it and proceed.

Restart the computer after the driver has been removed from both Device Manager and Programs and Features. Reinstall your downloaded device driver.

I have done this already before.

If that is the case then you can try running the Aero Fix via Microsoft Aero Repair, If this does not work, retry installing the driver, other than that... re-install the Operating System?

I think reinstalling Windows. :-(

The problem you are experiencing isn't rare, in fact it's common for most people to receive this error. However it only pertains to Chipset and Video Drivers. If installing your video drivers did not work work, try re-installing your Chipset drivers. If this doesn't work, then its time to create a backup and start from scratch. Unfortunately all solutions have not worked for you. But in reality these two devices play an important role in how the Aero is displayed. I am sorry the issue was not resolved. You may be able to seek help else where but you will likely see everything that I have mentioned.

That's pretty much what I thought was going on, the card is having issues displaying aero features.

Your video card is an M, so you have a laptop correct? Did you use the drivers from the laptop support site or the chip maker? If the chip maker, uninstall the card and install it again using the drivers from the laptop vendor. Another option is to try a system restore to a point before this happened. Since this worked before, what happened in the time between?

I don't remember anymore when it stopped working correctly.
