Question Server selection

Hey everyone,

I want to choose a server for my business. It will ran the ERP software and will be used for (light) file sharing too.

Some options are:

DELL Server PowerEdge T130/E3-1220v6/8GB/2x1TB HDD/DVD-RW/S130/1 PSU/3Y NBD
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1220v6(3.00GHz)

HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen10 Tower Server Xeon E-2124/8GB P06781-425
CPU: Xeon E-2124

The HP is much cheaper.

About DELL I think T130 series is ok.
I am using DELL systems and I am very satisfied with the support in my country.

The Xeon E-2124 (of HPE) seems to be newer than the Xeon E3-1220v6 of DELL.

What do you suggest?

You should rather check with your ERP vendor what hardware and software is needed to run the system, now and in next five years.

THen, approach vendors in your country, and make the choice. In some cases, buying hardware + OS + middleware (as a single SKU) might be cheaper, and provide better support options.

Make sure you also make provisions for backing up of the data on that server.

How much data?
How many connections?
How much throughput?
Budget?
Backups?
What does your chosen ERP software require? OS and hardware?
What other functions will be jammed into this 'server' in the next couple of years?


Don't answer these here....but these are some of the questions you'll need to know the answer to when you start the conversation with your vendor.

And do NOT build this thing yourself. Unless your personal job is the uber experienced IT guy...contract this out.

Actually I'm software engineer.

The software requirements are not something special.

My main question is about HPE servers. If I understand correctly I see that they have newer CPU's.
Also, I will install SSD.

For some reasons, I must buy a branded already built server.
