Setting up the VPN function on my TP-Link router

Hi everyone.

Hope y'all doing good today.

I have Private Internet Access which is installed on my Windows PC and it works fine.

However. I'd like to have my Smart TV hidden behind a VPN.

I use a TP-Link Archer C2 for my router and all my devices connect directly to the router. I saw a VPN section in the routers dashboard and I was wondering if it's possible to setup a VPN on the router so that my Smart TV which is using the Routers wireless connection is protected with a VPN. I don't think I can install PIA on my TV.. can I? It's a Hisense H49M3000.

I'd really appreciate some guidance from you experts. If you could possibly spare a moment of your valuable time to assist I would be really grateful.

However, I must warn you that I have very little experience with VPN's on routers and would need a patient person to help me.

Guessing you are using PIA as a VPN connection so that you have a secure and private connection. The application loaded on your windows PC has the needed configuration information to connect to a remote server through a VPN "tunnel" connection. The VPN section of you router configuration either allows are disallows a vpn connection to pass through your router.

To answer your question, conditionally NO you cannot setup your TV to use your modem and have a VPN connection without the application loaded on your tv which of course won't work. There are routers that can be configured with VPN configurations to give you the results you are trying to achieve. Take a look at ExpresssVPN (another provider) they have software that can be loaded on a router, which would protect the privacy of every device connected through you router.

So, am I correctly assuming that my TP-Link Archer C2 does not support the software from ExpressVPN?

I also assume that when you say 'another provider' you mean a different VPN software provider, instead of PIA. Not a different ISP?

Yep, don't think your router is one that's covered, there are a bunch of VPN providers, just mentioned the one I use and am familiar with, and yes, was referring to VPN provider not ISP
