Hi All,

I´m trying to setup, on my brand new pc, a RAID 0. This is the setup that I have:

CPU: I7 5820K
SSD: Samsung 850 evo 250gb (primary disk with OS Windows 10)
HDD: 2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB 64MB

My plan was to setup a RAID with the 2 Seagate hdd´s through the BIOS, but if I use the standard I cannot select the hdd´s for the RAID.

After this I started reading the manual an found the following instructions

Enter BIOS -> go to Advance -> SATA configuration and select RAID
Issue is I don´t see SATA configuration.
I can see PHC Storage configuration, after this if I go to SATA controller 1 Mode Selection.
Currently it´s set as AHCI Mode. But I can select RAID....

But as I´m not sure I don´t want to screw things up just using trail and error..

If someone could help me I would be grateful!!!

Thanks in advance!!!!

To use the "hardware RAID" you have to be plugged into the Intel controller on the mobo. and then enable on the main BIOS page and then do the setup. Otherwise ya use the software RAID in disc management in the OS.

As soon as you lose pictures or other irreplaceable data you won't call data loss nonsense.
But 4TB of data without a backup strategy is just asking for trouble.

Go to your mobo manual and it will list which sata ports are attached to which controller. Also the controller on the mobo will have an Intel sticker on it. The old HP i72600 machine here is the same. Consult the manual. If ya are still having trouble call ASUS if ya have an ASUS board. Don't know about other mobo manufacturers. . They are really helpful. Have an ASUS X99A/3.1 board here and it has three separate controllers with the Intel being 1 and 2 sata ports I believe. If ya have a lot of data one always has external back ups. Know what I mean, Vern? RAID0 runs almost exactly twice as fast r/w times as a single drive. RAID1 is redundancy and actually is a little slower than a single drive due to access times of multiple discs spinning up in order. 0 both spin up together.
The only thing to fear is fear.
Hope this helps.

Know that!!! Been there, have my important data saved in 3 different places lol

did you look at this ??

Anyone else that is having this issue, this workaround appears to be working for me:

I disabled Fast Boot, went into the CSM and Enabled CSM and set every field in it to Legacy Only. Somehow this allowed the Intel RAID manager to run ahead of the UEFI BIOS, and I erased and recreated the boot array inside the Intel program after I hit CTRL+I. Now when I boot into the UEFI BIOS the drive is showing up as Intel: BOOT. (I named the drive boot). It is now listed as bootable. I'm going to attempt the install, hope all goes well

Found the following in the manual:

Intel X99 Express Chipset with RAID 0,1,5,10 and Intel Rapid Storage Tecnology 13 support
- 1x SATA Express Port (gray, compatible with 2x SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports)
- 8x SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports* (4X beige/ gray from controller 1, ,4 x black from controller 2)

So I understand that i should work...
Need to figure out how lol!!!!

@junkeymonkey
Just entered the BIOS in the menu PHC Storage configuration I saw that the 3 disk were in beige controller 1....

Maybe this is the issue that I cannot tell the BIOS to create a RAID for disk 2 and 3

Do I need to change the AHCI Mode to RAID and then save and exit
hit Ctrl + I and follow the instructions of the manual.

Thanks for your quick repllies!!!

Yes ya do. Set to RAID. Then when ya reboot keep hittin delete or f2 or like ya enter the BIOS only do it from a cold start immediately and continuously and you should enter the RAID setup screen before the main BIOS screen which will happen after ya set the RAID drive selection. Ya may hafta redo this a couple of times to get it right. Hope this helps.

drives in port 1-2 set to raid then go configure the array [another part of the bios ] set optical drive with windows disk in as first boot device - save/exit boot to optical drive on windows disk follow prompts until the hard drive thing comes up then set up the 2 drives there to install windows [best I recall that ]

to me with todays drives and the speed of ssd as well raid just not so appealing as in the past

Yes and ya won't lose the OS install.. Make sure that your BIOS is ver. 1901 at least that is what it is for the X99A board, we thunk. Also, find the Intel RST, (rapid storage technology), driver either off of the ASUS install disc or Intel's site. Switch out yer C drive first and check Boot is O.K.. Then start on the RAID. Ya know how the ASUS BIOS only likes to recognize one change at a time.

Almost got it!!! Lol

I was able to create the RAID but i got an error msg, need to figure out how to solve it....

I changed AHCI to RAID, saved and exit, had the option to hit Ctrl + I

Selected the 2 drives that I wanted to RAID, created them without any issue

exit again and entered in the BIOS changed the boot priority but this is not working as I´m getting an error msg when it tries to load OS
btw disable the RAID from the boot sequence

Will let you guys know tomorrow

Thansk a lot for all you replies!

me I see it as 2 drives on raid #1 controller set it up don't save or exit or you can and go back into bios to set up boot drive then ste the boot drive on contoler 2 [ahci] then set that as first boot device

I would think the read drives on controller 1 should stay raid and the computer should boot to the single drive you set as first boot device on controller 2 ??

asus is not clear on that in the manual and you see form just the links I gave above some don't find it too easy as well

most times 2 sata ports work as the same like as sata port 1&2 --3&4 -- and they set up as a pair ??? so I should be able to do 1-2 raid and a single drive on 3 ide or ahci 4 optical drive

must be a asus thing I guess ???

No ASUS isn't clear in the manual about RAIDs . I think is accidentally intentional. I already understood RAIDS so that is how I got it done. Sometimes ya gotta bounce back and forth between Disc Management as an admin. in the OS and the BIOS and fiddle around as both hafta handshake properly for the drives to behave correctly. Sorry that can't remember the exact order here of things as I've done hundreds of things since last June when I set up the X99 machine here. It is my daily driver and runs perfectly though. Wait til ya wanna try changing the partition types from MBR to GPT on the fly. That was the riskiest and trying thing I've ever done as no one could explain that and couldn't afford to lose the C drive install, the RAID O and the recovery drive info and was pacing around like a caged big cat every move waiting to recopy all the drives one at a time like a slight of hand trick, unplugging drives and back and bouncing around in the BIOS, Disc Management, labeling etc. all along the way. The BIOS kept resetting the boot order cuz of AHCI and which drive was the boot drive and etc. cuz all drives are SSDs. PCI-e , RAID 0 and AHCI at the same time. The Intel 750 C, the E Raid0 SSDs and the F image backup SSD. It worked but took me all day and no won't even try to inform anyone else how to do it. Used a bunch of drives to do it though. Phew! We all need an adventure from time to time though:)!

Morning Guys!

I followed the steps mentioned in the http://www.manualslib.com/manual/547798/Asrock-Fatal1ty-H87-Performance.html#product-Z87

Did the following as mentioned in the above manual:
Advanced menu -> SATA Mode Selection to -> PHC Storage Configuration -> Sata Controller 1 Selection from AHCI to RAID.

Boot menu -> CSM -> Boot Devices Control from UEFI and Legacy OpROM to UEFI only

than I save and exit

After this the system reboots and I can enter with Ctrl + I create the RAID 0 as mentioned in both manuals

Then the systems try to reboot and I get the msg boot device inaccessible

AHHHH

Just kidding I´m having fun!!

I don´t give up, now that I started this journey I will not give up...
So you think Asrock has better mobo´s...

Thanks anyway for your time!
