Hi All,

I´m trying to setup, on my brand new pc, a RAID 0. This is the setup that I have:

CPU: I7 5820K
SSD: Samsung 850 evo 250gb (primary disk with OS Windows 10)
HDD: 2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB 64MB

My plan was to setup a RAID with the 2 Seagate hdd´s through the BIOS, but if I use the standard I cannot select the hdd´s for the RAID.

After this I started reading the manual an found the following instructions

Enter BIOS -> go to Advance -> SATA configuration and select RAID
Issue is I don´t see SATA configuration.
I can see PHC Storage configuration, after this if I go to SATA controller 1 Mode Selection.
Currently it´s set as AHCI Mode. But I can select RAID....

But as I´m not sure I don´t want to screw things up just using trail and error..

If someone could help me I would be grateful!!!

Thanks in advance!!!!

better for me of course that's all user experience and personal preference- asus sure aint the same asus I grew up with seems more on hype the quality these days

you said ''AHHHH-- Just kidding I´m having fun!! ''

would it not be more fun to be using the computer as you expected to and not all this try to get it there ??

I would be better to get there in the first try, but this is the first time I entered a BIOS, so I guess (only guessing) that this part of the learning curve. I don´t have a clue of all the naming conventions...

But if you think that other brands have a more user friendly interface I made a mistake... But have to live with it..

Again thanks for your reply

Ya know what they say about opinions . . . . . . . . . . We know about what has and is happening. Wonder why ASUS has 50 + percent of the motherboard market and why Inntel works exclusively with ASUS for boards? We don't know nuthin round here but our machines work perfectly and that is important to us. Heh,heh:).

I was looking at newegg reviews to see if anyone reported this as well isee one guy say it don't support nvme drives one says uts a por it will ??

then a2guys using a m2 says --- ''3) The MB won't boot from it! Even when enabling the Boot option for PCIE devices (UEFI First instead of Legacy Only), Windows installer claims the drive is not bootable. (It can see it)''

so is it a firmware issue with some ssd drives ?

this guy said this worked for him

thing here is do as he did with the windows disk and instead of installing the os just do the start up repair from the windows disk to see if it finds something missing or a issue with the boot manager ??? [point it to your primary boot drive that all ready has windows on it ]

don't know all you can do is keep jumping through hoops until you grow tired of it and move on knowing better next time ??

Hi guys I got this link for the site that I bought the mobo

http://benchmarkhardware.com/2015/03/sistemas-raid-como-configurar-y-usarlos-95780/

in spanish i will read it once I get home

The PCI-e thing. Use a compatible mobo as listed on Intel's site . Our 400 GB 750 went in and was installing the OS in 10 mins., including buttoning up the case, following Intel's guide with the ASUS X99A board. Don't waste your time and money trying to force incompatible equipment with a half assed work around. Some times some things may work but why bother when there is a proper method. For whatever this is worth do it right or don't do it at all. That is what my IT Kitty Tinkerbell sez. I trust her:).

There ya go:).
That was easy huh?

Lol didn´t work!!! but I don´t give up, I tried to load windows 10 through the BIOS and when it tries to load it I get this msg in red:

secure boot violation check secure boot policy in setup...

So I started reading, this is what I need to do, I think,

Need to go to the BIOS and clear the secure boot keys, found it but I cannot change this setting anybody know how

Thanks for all your help btw!!!!

There is a set the BIOS to default settings and start over. If at first ya don't succeed. . . . . You will get it and learn as ya go as this is the best part about computers according to Tinkerbell my IT Kitty"). With this I agree.
Have fun.

Also in disc management you can use a software RAID and it is pretty self instructing there but ya can't do both, meaning a software and a hardware RAID at the same time. There could be an issue, (unlikely), with the discs themselves as not all drives take kindly to being RAIDed.

When I set my mind on something I need to achieve it.. (Nice quote: "We never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do . . . . "
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young from their Southern Cross track.)

I already formatted the disk and tried all the steps above... Next step is to set it back to default settings and go step by step

If that doesn´t work I will go with the next sugestion

¨Also in disc management you can use a software RAID and it is pretty self instructing there but ya can't do both, meaning a software and a hardware RAID at the same time. There could be an issue, (unlikely), with the discs themselves as not all drives take kindly to being RAIDed.¨

Will let you know tomorrow!

Hi Tbs!

Does this mean that all disk are GPT:

Núm Disco Estado Tamaño Disp Din Gpt
---------- ---------- ------- ------- --- ---
Disco 0 En línea 232 GB 0 B *
* Disco 1 En línea 1863 GB 0 B *
Disco 2 En línea 1863 GB 0 B *

While choosing the partition type ya change it to either GPT or MBR. Forget about dynamic disc. It only changes that individual disc. So, ya hafta do the discs that ya wanna RAID the same way. Ya need GPT for discs over 2TBS which is why I brought this up cuz your RAID if 0, it would be 4TB and could confuse things to the point of failures. Back up and read my little scenario about converting discs to GPT from MBR. W10 responds better and is written for GPT with a lot of things like boot and shut down time speeds and responsiveness if the OS is installed on a GPT disc. My thing, PCI-e is one controller, and is listed under storage controllers, even as a C drive. in disc management, not under disc drives. A RAID can be listed in multiple places as well. Ya gotta study this stuffs as these things are beyond the scope of a help forum and can be lengthy. RAID is another. AHCI, RAID, IDE, is another whole area of understanding just like controllers. Also ya need to understand the difference between software and hardware RAIDs. Understand the diffs. between UEFI and legacy BIOS's. Also understand how everything interacts, BIOS settings, OS, hardware. software, settings and etc. This is not a book about how computers work, but a help forum. Helping on a forums has practical limits but will do what we can. This should keep ya busy for the next few minutes. Ever notice how sometimes an apparent answer geometrically leads to more questions? This is where my IT Kitty Tinlerbell helps out around here.
Have fun,
sincerely,
Walt Prill:)!

you are right, I started trying to create a RAID and now i´m trying to understand things I never knew.... Just because I´m trying to create a RAID....

Today I chatted with the help desk of Asus, and they told me that I cannot have an OS installed if I want to create a RAID.
I make sense as, if I use the EZ wizard, of the BIOS , to create the RAID it creates wants to create the RAID for the 3 disk....

I´m thinking that tomorrow I´m going to format the SSD and try to follow the manual...

This is just to have fun... LOL if this doesn´t work I think I will stop trying to create a RAID.

Thanks a lot for your answer!

ASUS is telling ya incorrectly. Yer at the mercy of that rep sometimes like all cust. serv. things. Not going to debate that. If ya have An OS on your C drive running properly, quit using EZ mode and use the advanced mode. Make sure the C drive is on a different controller than the RAID you are trying to set up.Clone your C drive to another aux. drive so if ya screw up so ya can clone it back so as ya don't lose yer current install, if that is important etc. and ya probably will several times. If ya go that route . . . Errr, stop, me. Too much all at once here That means you are trying and learning. We sure have f###ed up more times than carter has pills. And on multiple machines incidentally. Macruim Reflect Free is what we use for clones. All ya hafta do is . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Heh,heh:)!
Tinkerbell

Or, load the OS on the RAID and clone to yer favored drive after it is running.. All that is unnecessary though. We loaded the Intel 750 PCI-e SSD first on the original build and installed the OS on it and set up the RAID afterwards, first as a soft, and then a hard RAID later and two more drives drives as well. That it is a PCI-e is incidental as it is still the C drive, if ya are following along here.
T.B:).

Made a mistake on the vote stuff, but the guy from Asus was telling me the that you did, I cannot have the ssd on the same bridge / controller

probably that's why I can't boot after all the changes.....
