Shadow mask vs Aperture grid

Hi, I know there was another question similar to this one, but I didn't find the answer I was looking for.

I wanna buy a 19" monitor, which has to be perfectly flat, space saving, and I wanna use it primarly for games, internet, and also for Word, power point, etc...

Should I go with a shadow mask monitor (like my viewsonic 15" 15GS), or should I go with those apperture grid monitor, with those 2 lines I hate ? Are the shadow mask still alive ? I tried to find some, but it's so fuxxxxx hard!

Are there any advantages between those 2 types of screen ? I mean, if there's so much apperture grid, is it because it is more advance, or good, or is it because they are cheaper ?

thanks !

Shadow mask is more for CAD/CAM users who demand clear view of their work... AG is meant for graphic artists who demand good image quality coupled with nice, deep color. For your usage I would recommend AG, since I use a ViewSonic PF775 myself too. There are two faint horizontal lines for sure, but most of the time I never pay attention to them. It's like wearing glasses; sometimes you wear you glasses to find for your glasses  .

In my experience there is really no difference in text quality between a good trinitron type monitor and a good shadow mask. I have a NEC 950+ Diamondtron aperture grill monitor and at 1600x1200 I'd place its text quality up against any other monitor of equal size in the world. It is that good :)
