I got a Sapphire 4870 with the stock cooler. My extra info has my system setup. I have an Antec900 so I already hear a whooshing noise form the case fans. at 45% I can hear the VGA cooler over the case fans but it doesn't have that hair dryer high pitched noise...just a louder whoosh.
I did a quick few minutes of Crysis on the new drivers and it seems the same to me. I haven't had the chance look into it deeper but here is my master plan; I dual boot Vista and XP. I haven't updated the drivers on Vista yet so I will benchmark with 8.6, upgrade, and then benchmark with 8.7 to see what is up with Crysis. I don't have much time though right this week.
Yes, WIC gave me considerably higher scores in the built in benchmarks, like 5-10% increase. Somewhat better scaling, but I still expect there is room for driver improvment.
Before this weekend is over I'm going to upgrade CPU fan to Zalman CNPS700 LED and apply Zalman Super Thermal Grease to CPU, NB, HD4850 GPU and vRAM if possible.
I have Antec Formula 5 on my E8400 right now so I'm a little histant to put the Zalman Super grease on everthing but I've read that it is just as good as AS5 or AF5.
I went to Fry's today to look for Tuniq TX-2 to put on the HD4850 and didn't find any. I did find the Zalman CNPS9700 LED on sale for $39.99 so I decided to but it and get the grease included. 😀
