I love the harmonica intro to the song School by Supertramp, it just seems to be mesmerizing to me and extremely soothing, I almost wish the entire song was just the harmonica.

I've always liked that song as well, the Eagles do have a special place in my heart especially the album Desperado, there's a story I cannot share here because of the GRAPES policy but this song directly related to me at one time of my past.

Some of my favorite songs ever in that list Ryan!

I'm hopelessly addicted to Lana Del Rey right now. Not at all what I typically listen to ( at all! ) but there is just something about her voice I can't get enough of. It fits the mesmerizing label of this thread for me.

She's different from anyone else I've ever heard. Sort of a hybrid 50s lounge singer with modern music and production. Especially songs like this that almost have a hip hop cadence. Beautiful voice.

Amy Lee, the lead singer for Evanesence is one of my most favorite female voices, the clip below is her singing "My Immortal" , she could very easily be 100% on her own without the rest of the band.

Christina Aguilera always had an amazing voice. I haven't seen Burlesque though.

Looks like we pretty much agree musically! I do wander over to some very heavy metal but then I really love stuff like Lana Del Rey and even some classical sometimes. I just have very eclectic tastes I guess :p

Speaking of 80s remakes have you heard Mad World by Alex Parks? This is a great song and I like it much better than the Tears for Fears original. She won some talent contest in England in the mid 2000s then sort of disappeared after a couple of albums.

I don't know if you listen to the radio at home or not but I added one of these Grace Digital WiFi tuners to my home stereo about a year and a half ago and I haven't had to listen to the crappy local stations here since except in the car.

I'd give it 4.5 stars just because the criticism about the interface in spot on. It's not hard to use but it could be much easier. The content is amazing though. I never thought I'd be listening to local stations in the Faroe Islands or Hong Kong through my home system. As much as I like classic rock we have a station here that has had the same damn playlist since at least 1988 :lol: That station and a top 40 station are all I can handle locally.

It's been some time since I listened to Tears for Fears, "Mad World", and I agree with you I like her version better.

So you say Alex Parks (Alexandra Rebecca Parks), has a couple of albums out, I'll have to track them down if I can?

Edit: No Joy in tracking down her music, at least through my DJ resources, that is!

I saw she did 2 albums, Introduction and Honesty, and then literally disappeared, weird for a rising talent? :pfff:

Well, I can safely start this list with Pink Floyd, 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'. The entire song. Just absolutely incredible and mesmerizing. Love these guys in all their incarnations from the 60's to the present. From there things get a bit hodge-podgey...

I love a really lot of classical, mostly strings and/or piano, but way too many composers for me to ever have tried to keep track of who they are. I couldn't pronounce half their names if I tried anyway.

A big Metal fan going all the way back to the very late 70's I must agree with the earlier poster in regards to Cliff Burton. 'Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)' still ryles up my angst of growing up under the threat of emmenent apocalyptic nuclear annihilation during the late Cold War. A true masterpiece, as are all 3 of the instrumentals he did with Metallica. 'Orion' already mentioned and 'The Call of Cthulhu'.

I would be amiss not to mention the incredible works of Ministry, an early Industrial Metal band that captivated sense of groove, violence and need for lyrical/conceptual intelligence. While not necessarily for all ears, check out 'So What' from the album 'A Mind Is a Terrible Thing To Taste'. There are many great works from this band's entire collection.

Speaking of great musicians that are bad singers, has System Of A Down ever made a bad song? I don't know of any. I love the hidden track from the end of the 'Toxicity' album.

I love Ministry! Psalm 69 is a great album as well.

Pink Floyd and Zeppelin are the two best bands in the history of rock. Meddle, Wish You Were Here, DSOTM, Animals, The Wall and maybe controversially to some, The Final Cut along with Momentary Lapse are all just amazing across the board.

Also yes, System of a Down is good stuff.

Two more obscure metal albums from the 80s that are among my favorite are Testament's The Legacy and Metal Church's The Dark.
