I've read thru related posts but nothing suggested seems to be working. I
have two computers - one running XP Home but SP2 has not been installed. It
is running Norton Antivirus and Internet Security. The other running XP Pro
with SP2 with firewall on. Printer is connected to the home computer and
shared. When adding a network printer to the XP Pro computer, it can find the
workgroup and the computer, but not the printer. I've checked both firewalls
and they allow exceptions for file and printer sharing. I have turned
firewalls off on both and still cannot find the printer. Please tell me what
to do next.

Ensure the shared name is less than 12 characters will NO SPACES in it.

The shared name is already less than 12 characters with no spaces.

Have you specifically allowed the printer through the Norton software?

Yes - in fact, I completely uninstalled Norton to back up and start over. My
XP Pro is finding my XP Home both work group and computer name. Altho I can
mark files and printers for sharing, they are not being recognized on my
XPHome. This worked fine until SP2 came along. I'm about ready to give up, go
buy a longer USB cable, and direct-connect my work computer to the printer
and be done with it. I've wasted way too much time on this the past few days
just trying to print.

I am having virtually the same problem with the same configuration (XP
SP 2 on both machines.)

My shared name is less than 12 characters and has no spaces.

I keep getting the following error:

"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was
typed incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to
the server."

The printer is working fine on the PC it is connected to.
The other PC can get to shared files and folders on the PC with the
printer attached.
But for some odd reason, it keeps giving me this error.

ANY IDEAS ON WHAT TO DO?????????????????????????????????
