My shift keys don't seem to be working, when used with certain keys.

The left shift key only works when used with these keys (from top-left to bottom-right):
~!@%^&*()WRTYUIOP{}SJKL:ZXCVNM<>?

The right shift key only works when used with these keys (from top-left to bottom-right):
~!@$%^*()SDGJKZXCVBNM<>?

It doesn't seem like this could indicate a faulty keyboard, especially because the left and right shift keys work with different keys. Additionally, all of the keys work fine without the shift keys.

Any help would be appreciated.

If both Shift keys are not working, Try to check if sticky keys feature on windows is on. Sticky keys should be disabled. To disable sticky keys, Click on start and Go into control panel > Accessibility Options, and under keyboard there is sticky keys. Remove the tick and click apply and OK.

Sticky Keys is not on.

I don't game a lot. The keyboard has barely any wear, and it has almost no dust or debris. I did clean it in the recent past.

This may be your problem, may not. I had the same issue on a Logitech Wave Pro keyboard.
I took it apart, cleaned the flexible PC board and the membrane. Put it back together and it works like new. Getting the membrane lined up and steady in re-assembly is the only difficulty.

My Sony VAIO E Series VPCEB46FG Laptop, Both Shift Keys stopped functioning. After doing lots of thing for 10 days I could get back both SHIFT Keys functioning. I removed the ONE "Back Cover Screw" which was pressing on the back of my "Left Shift Key". My problem is solved.
sorry friends... not solved.... my problem has recurred in 2-3 hours.

Had the same issue and solved it just now.. its definitely an hardware issue, one of the keys is stuck and causing this problem.

Disassamble the keyboard, clean it, check that nothing is stuck and assemble it back.
Worked like a charm for me.

i had this problem, closed skype and VOOAAALLAAA @!U#&$* working thanks :bounce:

Click on START Orb
In the text box enter "speech" (no quotes)
On the choices click Windows Speech Recognition
Go to the test
on the last option cancel the test - You will get a warning that Speech has not been setup
ignore and click Cancel

Try your Shift + s - It should work now.
If you have other Shift issues ( y , k, o) those will also go away
Somehow Windows Speech recognition is being set up by a program OR it starts by itself if it senses a microphone

I found this solution on a MAC OS forum.

BTW - Skype is not the guilty party
Cheers
