Well i'm kinda trying to choose 1 right now, they cost about the same. Aopen has made a S479 MicroATX board, so it's possible to use the current Dothan chips for desktop with an AGP card.

Really? Do you know if the Aopen board would take a high-grade cooler solution like XP90 or XP120 from thermalright? You might succeed in achieving 2.4Ghz indeed!

Though... the 3200 winchester will probably also go to 2.6Ghz, but not much beyond that... It's a tough match. I'd probably go with the A64, mainly because of 64-bit support... not for speed or anything; both should be fast enough for most purposes.

Winchester 3200+. Even at equal clock (2.4 vs. 2.4), winchester should be little faster or equal to dothan.

Besides you aren't limited to a hard to find Aopen mobo with A64 solution.

Hello Meph, hope you can answer this for me. In Tom's review they weighted Msteam with 4 benchmarks, while only having 6 actual games benchmarks. So what is Mstream, and can I get it from a local Intel rep?

lol, I was thinking about that benchmark too. And in conclusion, they used the kindest words they could use for P4EE and Intel.

another proof, THG sux.

Ah muffins don’t cry too much, just their whole advertisement deal with any company; Asus AMD ATI yada yada is probably a fair chunk of change. Say too much they cut the deal.

last i heard clock for clock, ahtlon 64's still held a bit of an edge over dothan chips, in some areas it was big leads, in others it was nearly equal.

also, you tlak aobut how youd be the first to buy a dual core dothan over dual core ahtlon 64.... why is that? youd htink out of both of those, the amd chip would be the ebtter performer considering the fact that they alrady laid the architecture for dual core, whiel intel would have to either redesign the dothan or just slap two togehter like they are doing with the p4, which is more of sloppy first generation concept. of course ill wait to see real numbers, but it jsut seems amd is more prepared for proper dual core out of the gate.

...If it performs the way I think it would, that is. And only if 64-bit was enabled, of course.

...also, who cares if a solution is patchwork, as long as it works? It being patchwork might be relevant technically, but not for the end user! Remember, x86 itself is patchwork after patchwork... Like x86-64, heh!

"...If it performs the way I think it would, that is. And only if 64-bit was enabled, of course."

and what info are you using to base that on? i havent seen anyhitng at all to say dual core dothan would give a better performance increase then dual core p4's. in fact there hasnt been a whole lot of talk at all about the dual core dothans. im just wondering why your so convinced it will be that good of a performer.

Yeah, they will be more compeatetive in gaming, but lose advantage in multimedia and 3d rendering. In fact, Intel will face a P3 vs. Athlon situation, when Athlon used to win virtually every benchmark. That time AMD captured 25% market share with crappy chipset/mobos, now with decent platforms, they can do even better.

well i do know that when there is more dothan's on the desktop, ill be using it in my home theater pc. that is an area where a dotahn's power and heat can shine, meaning less cooling i need to make it louder.
