Question Shorted USB, still works but provides less power.

I stupidly shorted 5V and ground on a device connected to my PC via USB (its a USB 3.1 or 3.2). After restarting the computer, it still works, but it provides less power to it. It still works fine for low power devices like my ESP32-C3, but my dualsense controller does not work on that USB port (and the one next to it can't power a controller either...). Is it common for a USB controller or port to break down in a way where it still functions but with less power. Has a resettable fuse not fully reset and that's why its not providing full power? Is it a firmware thing where the USB controller has gone into safe mode or low power mode or something? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

That would mean your board will slowly die away. If you're adept with soldering, look for the fuse that's delivering power to the USB ports on the board but you're going to be voiding your warranty. What is the make and model of your motherboard? Which USB port have you identified the short on?

More like the fuse is blown and needs replacing, I presume.

The entire motherboard is gonna die??? Nooooooooooooooooo! I don't care about warranty tbh, hella old mobo at this point, its MSI b450 gaming plus (not max).

I think you're misunderstanding, I shorted 5V and ground for a bit (multiple times). There isn't a perpetual short between 5V and ground right now.

The USB's that are broken rn are the front USB's and the USB's directly connected to the cpu which is USB 3.1 Gen1. These USB are a bit important to me because supposedly they have less input lag compared to the USB working through the chipset.

I could short between the fuse but tbh I don't wanna take apart my entire PC. I just went ahead and ordered a powered USB hub so it should work if power is the only issue (which it seems to be). If it doesn't work I will update this thread.
