Question Should i buy a new PSU..

I bought the Cooler Master V1200 Platinum seven years ago, and now I want to buy an ASUS RTX 5070 or maybe a 5070 Ti. Considering that there is an adapter cable inside the GPU box, can I use my PSU, or should I buy a new one?

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

List all attached peripherals.

Use an online calculator to determine the system's power demands.

Likely that a 7 year old PSU may be at or near its' designed in EOL (End of Life) and starting to falter and fail.

May or may not be able to support the RTX 5070.

You should use only the cables that come with a new PSU.

Without knowing more information I would be leery of any "adapter" cables...

It has a seven-year warranty so it's probably a good idea to look for a new one.

personally upgrade the psu has had a good life its hit its 7 year warranty. that being said 5000 series gpus are problematic. the card is more likely to cause a house fire over the psu at this point lol.

Without knowing more information I would be leery of any "adapter" cables...

For the last 3 generations of Nvidia cards, the models that require the 12vhpwr connector come with an adapter to connect it with the 8-pin PCIe cables from the PSUs that are not ATX 3.0 or 3.1. Even the founder edition models have the adapter included in the box. Nothing fishy here.

Fair enough.

However, with so many counterfeit products being shoved into the markets I believe that caution is warranted.

Even if "real" I would be concerned about quality with respect to design, materials, assembly etc..

Especially with respect to power related components.

Most manufacturers know that many people, for any number of reasons, will not bother with returns, RMAs, and so forth.

We really have no way to truly know - rightly or wrongly - what got packed into the box.

When it comes to cables and adapters: "compatible with" is a red flag in my mind....
