Hi, do I get this motherboard. Right now I have a Q9550 and a P35-DS3 board, and I would like something newer. I want to get an ASRocK Z77 Extreme4 board, with an i7-3770k, and G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 16 or maybe 32 GB 1600 MHz. My PSU is an MSI MAG A650BN, and my GPU is a GTX 970!

Would need the specific model numbers on the memory to be used to fully assess, but you are on the right track. 16GB (2x8) would probably suffice. Is this intended to be a retro gaming rig?
Exactly, a retro gaming rig, and a computer used to browse, and to use for VMs and more. Kind of like a home PC used to play old games and do some Hyper-V type stuff in the long run. Model of RAM is this: PC-12800, 16 GB, G.SKILL Ripjaws X series, F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL, DDR3 1600MHz, kit 2x8GB. I thought of this kit as it is 42 euros, 16 GB, and I think good as I saw people use it

Memory should be okay. For VMs, I would have recommended 32GB (2x16).

Are you using SSDs, HDDs, or a combo of both?
Well thanks for the recommendation! I will see what I can do, maybe will try getting 32!

Well, for storage, I am using an old 250 GB Seagate Barracuda ST3250410AS HDD for storage, so for old software, Windows 7 Builds ISOs, and more. And I use 2 SSDs (ADATA SU650 512 GB, for Windows 7 and Vista, and a Samsung 870 EVO, for Windows 8.1, XP, and 10). I got those 2 as SSDs here are cheap and easy to buy

Try with 16GB and see how it performs for your needs.

The trick might be finding a full matched set of 4x8GB DIMMs. Finding 2x16GB would be easier, I would think, if you need it.

Remember, mixing memory makes/models can produce undesirable results.
Yes, I will try, still tryna get some money saved up to buy everything. But when I do get 16 I will see if it works well, and if it does, I will keep it. If I ever think of upgrading then I will lol.

And yeah mixing memory I can't do that, that will make complications for latencies, speeds and more. Getting the same kit is simple enough 😉

The "same kit" needs to be the same revision else you have the same mixing issue. I have seen 2 pairs of the "same" memory sold at the same time, that ended up being completely different revisions and did not work properly together.
