First here is my system
asus A&N8x non deluxe version
amd athlon xp 2800+ ( FSB 333 , only the 3200 can be 400)
2 x 256 Golden dragon ultra 400 mhz dual channel

ok ATM my setup have this configuration
cpu set at 166 mhz and ratio is at 12.5 = approx 2087 mhz = 2800+ mhz
my memory frequency is set at 166 mhz so 166X2 = 333 mhz
as u can see the frequency of my processor is 333 and the memory is at 333 so its the perfect SYNC but..

Since my memory can support 400 mhz Should i try to overclock my cpu to like 200 mhz and ratio set at like 12 so my cpu will run like at 2200 mhz and the frequency of my memory will sync with the cpu cause they will be both at 400 Mhz

i tried to put my bios at 200 mhz and ratio set at 10.5 = approx 2087 mhz but my pc wont started and i had to clear the cmos for the 30 th times so far

thanks

or this will not work at all ..

Splendid
Try going up gradually. Start at 12.5 X 170, then 172, 174.
When you get a little unstable, drop the multiplier by .5
Also you might want to raise your cpu voltage.
Have you loaded the newest bios? Even if you end up with a speed of 2 gig at 200 fsb, the ram bandwidth gain will more than make up for the 80 odd mhz speed you loose.

umm im not to familiar about flashing the bios and this is HIGHLY risqued to flash a bios
i think i let my system like that the memory probably suck finally i thought it was the faster on the world but it seem not i just got a score of 2160 on sysoft sandra and that really suck and make me $#@%%?$#

What is the PCB revision of your A7N8X? Anything other than rev2.0 have difficulty to reach 200MHz because of the A2 stepping northbridge, it only has 1.56V where you need 1.8V to be stable at 200MHz unless you do the Vdd mod. Well some pre-rev2.0 A7N8X can get to 200MHz but either they have A3 stepping northbridge or they are very lucky. I've read somewhere that with A2 stepping northbridge, even you put a 3200+ (400FSB) on it it may not run stable and Asus is not going to do anything on this. And don't fuss about yours can't do 200MHz, you may think many people get it but there are much more people can't.

thanks a lot TKH
i am not sure about my pcb revision but im really sure my proc4essor can t accept 200 mhz since i saw on amd web page at the setup text then the processor is a FSB 333 and not 400 so the only method to bring him 200 mhz is overcloak it and anyway if i overclock it is i will have some gains ? the system could run instable also

Hey! got my 2500+ 333mhz running @ 400mhz by putting my fsb to 200 from 166 on my Soltek sl75frn2-rl mobo with stock air cooler. If you have the PCB rev 2.0, then you should be able to crank it up.

Try to look at the PCB between the PCI 1 and 2, you'll see some silk word saying A7N8X and follow by extremely tiny word indicate your PCB version. You may have 1.03(rare), 1.04(popular), 1.06(rare), or 2.0(popular too). Only the 2.0 can support 400FSB Athloon XP (that's the infamous 3200-), although pre-2.0 mobo can use BIOS upgrade to support 400FSB, because of the undervolt northbridge it becomes a joke. Anyway, a Thoroughbred-B or Barton core Athlon XP is almost 80% guaranteed to run at 200MHz depend on multiplier, I've seen a 1700+ running at 11.5x200. So, beside the 3200-, AMD users can also benefit from 200MHz FSB if you overclock, this is not for Intel only :). But remember, running at 200+MHz need very good cooling, and actually you may not notice any difference beside benchmark result and temperature. I overclock my 2600+ from 166MHz to 180MHz and run 3DMark03 CPU test, and I only get 1-2FPS increment. And I got undervolt northbridge as well as overheat southbridge... well I think they don't get called AnusTek and AssusTek for nothing :)
