Should I soul-trap Vivec?

In my past games, I've always soul-trapped a Golden Saint in Azura's
Star, so I could get a repeatable Constant Effect on everything I
enchanted. (I don't think I've ever done it with an Ascended Sleeper.)

I just read a summon scroll, cast soultrap, give her a whack or two
with my Daedric Crescent, and I've got a nice Constant Effect available
for the rest of the game.

But this game I'm wondering if I should wait until I'm strong enough to
take out Vivec, and trap *his* soul in Azura's Star instead of a Golden
Saint's soul. Is there a big advantage in using him to enchant my stuff
instead of one of the other two?

Thanks

IIRC, he provides a 1000pt charge, vs the golden saints/ascended sleepers
400pts.

If you've got Tribunal, soultrap his lady(?) friend the God Alemixia
instead, her soul is worth more than Vivec's! And unlike Vivec, she
tries to kill your character, making her death and trapped soul much
more satisfying, to me at least! ^_^

FYI - Souls of Ascended Sleepers can be used to enchant items with
constant effect spells... Also the trapped soul of a God is No More
useful that of a Golden Saint or an Ascended Sleeper IF you're using
them for Constant Effect enchantments on items. 🙁 The advantage to
using a God's soul is when you enchant something with a "Cast on Strike"
or "Cast on Use" spell since the stored charge will be larger than that
of a Golden Saint or an Ascended Sleeper...

Now see? That's something I didn't know. I learned something here
today. :)

Damn! I knew I should have tried to soul trap Alamalexia. I wasn't sure
it was possible, so I didn't bother to try when she appeared in the
Clockwork city. I twice cast soul trap on Dagoth Ur and both times
received the message the spell had no target. I assumed I'd have similar
results with her.

Then I guess you'll need to add her soul to your Must Collect list when
you create your next character in a new game! <L>

As an experiment to see if it could be done, I once tried soultraping
Vivec's soul. Then once I had his soul and saw what it was worth, I
loaded a prior saved game since I didn't really need such a large soul,
and to tell the truth I like Vivec and I felt guilty after I'd killed
him...

As for Alamixia, I didn't like her from the start, and I was REALLY glad
when she attacked my character in the Clockwork city. Needless to say,
I almost immediately cast a soultrap spell on her and then gladly
finished her off! Afterward I considered the fact that her soul was
worth more than Vivec's to be a Nice Bonus that was worth quite abit
more to me as a Trophy, than as part of some Enchanted Item I didn't
really need. ^_^

Don't feel bad, I've tried soultraping the Heart of Lokan several
different times with no luck! 🙁 As for Dagoth Ur, I'm sure that At
Least 4 or 5 different characters of mine have tried casting soultrap on
him through the years I've been playing the game...

Granted, I agree that according to one of the books in the game (I
forget which one), it SHOULDN'T be possible to trap the souls of Either
Alamexia OR Vivec since both of them Plus Dagoth Ur, SHOULD be protected
by the same "Mortal who Became a God" that the book said protects the
souls of the Other NPC's/mortals in the game...

Both Dagoth Ur and Lorkhan's Heart don't have a soul, so you can't
soultrap them.

They are mortal after the heart is destroyed. Did anyone ever
successfully soul-trap Vivec before the heart is destroyed?

I never tried, but there is no script attached to Vivec and there is only
one Vivec Creature in the game, so it should't make any difference when
you soultrap him. He just floats in his palace unimpressed by any event.
Only his dialogue is changed after Ur's death

I do indeed have Tribunal, or rather the x-box "Game of the Year"
edition which contains Tribunal and Bloodmoon. I'll forget about
soul-trapping Vivec (which I don't like the idea of since he's so
friendly and helpful in the Main Quest) and switch to Almalexia
instead.

Incidentally, the reason you *can* soultrap Vivec and *can't* soultrap
Dagoth Ur is because Dagoth Ur is a humanoid and Vivec is a creature.
You can't soultrap humanoids and you can soultrap creatures.

May your kills be quick, and many!

They were the same race once, and they were made Gods the same way, so I
don't see why the difference.

There is no logical difference. The difference is that Bethesda gave Vivec
and Almalexia a positive soul value while Dagoth Ur and Lorkhan's Heart
have a soul value of zero. Theoretically they could be soultrapped, but
practically there is nothing to be trapped.
The fact that Dagoth Ur is humanoid has nothing to do with that. He still
lists under the Creature tab of the TESCS, just like Vivec.

I never wanted to soul trap Vivec. After all, he helped me to find the
most powerful weapons in the game. I did soul trap Alemexia, several Golden
saints, Spriggans, and acsended sleepers, all of which give a constant
effect. I would take my captured soul to the Mages guild in Balmora and pay
to have something enchanted, even though my enchant skill is 90+. I wound up
with lots of great spells, but my favorite is a fireball that kills any one,
probably even Vivec. But if you insist on killing Vivec, yes, there is a
definite advantage: the more powerful a char. is, the greater the spell
points to play with.
