Hi, I am planning to upgrade my PC,
Current spec:
  • I5 8400
  • RTX 2060 6GB
  • 16 GB RAM

I'm wondering wich one is better between upgrade the CPU to I7 9700, or upgrade the GPU to RTX 2070 ?
Looking forward to having your advice

I guess that depends, the i5 8400 and RTX 2060 are both pretty recent and capable in games. Why do you want the upgrade and what are you trying to achieve with it?

I'm guessing you want to improve performance in games? If so what settings, screen resolution and refresh rate are you trying to hit?

I would say initially, the performance jump you are looking at on the cpu side is much larger than on the gpu side, although I'm assuming you have picked those parts as they fit your budget?

Hi, all your assumptions are correct 😅
So, what I am trying to achieve with the upgrade is stable FPS at 60 minimum with high or maybe ultra setting if possible. Currently, I always play at 1080 resolution with a 75hz monitor.

Most of the games can achieve stable 60 FPS, but some games (Final Fantasy XV, GTA V) are having FPS drop or even freezing for a moment.

Also, I am preparing for the new release games like Cyberpunk 2077, Watchdog legion, etc.

I would say the CPU upgrade might help more with improving minimums than the gpu upgrade (as 2060 -> 2070 isn't really a massive jump, and a 2060 should be plenty for 1080p).

That said, for GTA V should already run smoothly, there was a bug a while ago though that could cause stuttering with 6 core cpu's so might be worth checking if there is a patch available.

This is a easy one, your 2060 is a great card for 1080p 144FPS gaming. I would upgarde the CPU to a K version grab a 9900k or a 10900k. If your on a budget then grab a 10700k along with the socket 1200 board like a Aorus Elite for about 200 bones. Also after that I would upgarde RAM get the same kit and fill all four slots. Im guessing you have SSD so that is not a issue. So ya grab a new CPU and MOBO my friend. Your 2060 for 1080p gaming will live on for now until its time to upgrade to a 4080Ti or a 5080Ti or a 6080Ti. Just depends how the industry goes and if you care about Ray Tracing and all those gimicks and what not. Good Luck 🙉🙏🏽💯👨🏽‍🦲

Hi, thanks for your advice. For now, my choices are limited to LGA 1151 socket only, have limited budget to upgrade the Mobo right now haha 🤣
So, for now will considering the 9900K 😁

No problem my friend, grab the 9900k as the price fell down 100 bucks. Pair that with a 130 dollars Aorus Elite Z390 board and your good to go. Any further concerns let me know. 🙉🙌
