265W psu

i want to play pubg

its black friday there are nvidia geforce 1050ti 4gb cards for 130 today... should i buy this? the 1050 thats for 100... or can i not upgrade my optiplex to these cards? ive heard mixed reviews

what should i do? i want to play pubg and not spend a fortune

Solution
Well it doesn't go away, the slot still can only use 35W, but the GPU will be able to get extra power from the 6-pin connector coming straight from the power supply.

In a way the 35W limitation goes away. Sure try it. I think it will work. This guy did exactly that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc5CVHAnpQ0

*But don't forget to update your BIOS. I'm pretty sure you will have to do that to get the newer GPU to work.
i see... what do you think i should do ???? Have my girlfriend buy me some stuff now then the rest later? id rather not..... but at same time id hate to have to upgrade a couple years later

i mean its no guarentee this will even work with my mobo.. and if it does its probobly going to be running low becuase of the 35w cap.. and if im going to have to buy a new mobo and all that.. i might as well get a good graphics card now? idk what to do anymore...that 150 for the 1050ti seems pretty legit

Yeah that's what I would do.

Then decide if you want to build a new system. It's not really worth upgrading your system if you have to buy a new motherboard.

You could try the EVGA 600W power supply for $29.99 and the MSI 1050 Ti with the 6-pin connector and hope the power supply is compatible.

Or buy the EVGA and hope it works. I'm pretty sure it will if you update your BIOS. Others have said it worked for them after BIOS update.

if it doesnt work you think i should just buy a brand new rig? from where? i thought about buying refurbished from newegg but damn i kind of wanted to use my girls best buy credit card.. theres like 300 on there... maybe i can use her 300 plus add some of my own and get a new computer from best buy? idk the comps from best buy seem overpriced id have to look tho

sigh... im just getting a gpu i seen my bro run pubg with a nvidia 960 he runs it on low and gets lag start of every match... but its not that bad

ill just try and hope these 1050ti actually works the evga one

again thanks for all your help

ill keep you posted

just wondering how do i know if a psu adds the 6 pci connector slots i need for my gpu?

itll say its ATX or what? should i try this first or buy the evga that doesnt require 6 pcie connector

i

should i go with that since i already bought the 6 slot gpu..... i read somewhere if i add a new psu the 35w limit on my pci slot goes away or something like that... almost want to try it... but im scared

Solution
well.... i went with the 1050 ti i originally purchased from best buy as well as a corsair cx550m 500w psu... i read somewhere dell recommends the corsair cx750m aand i suppose the 550m psu to upgrade my optiplex 790 with... i cant tell you why exactly its a munch of ac / dc mumbo jumbo. so i just bought that instead of the EVGA power supply becuase they didnt have it in store anyways. the corsair was 50 bucks but w.e.... sooo i upgraded my bios... and pubg is running like a champ now i have zero lag on low settings... im about to crank it up and see what happens....

one thing i want to ask... if i crank my settings up... am i running the risk of frying my processor?

i just spoke to a friend he said he fried his 1050 with a i3 2000 series cpu like the one i have.. he also said he wasnt certain what really caused it.

i was planning on running pubg on low until i get a new processor... what do you think i have a 500w psu now.... and a good one... can i crank the settings up on pubg without worrying about my computer frying? sounds like a dumb question now that im actually asking it but idk....

Yes you can games on any settings without worrying about frying anything. You have the Corsair CX550M and that is a good power supply. The higher you turn up the graphics the more you stress your GPU (which isn't a bad thing, stress the GPU all you want that's what it's for) but the more stress on the GPU means less stress on the CPU.

I'm glad you got it working. :)
