13 months ago I purchased a gaming PC to get into PC gaming which was £699 I'm here to ask, would you upgrade or buy a new PC? I can run all the games I play at high/ultra at 60fps+ but I feel my PC is getting outdated and soon enough I won't be able to play new games at high res my specs are:

i5 4460k
GTX 960 2GB
1TB HDD
8GB RAM
300w PSU

I've done some looking around and to get the PC to what I would call future proof (3+ years) it would cost upwards of £800, the specs would be after those upgrades:

i7 6700k
GTX 1070 8GB
1TB HDD
16GB RAM
750w PSU

Would it be worth the cost to upgrade or just buy a new PC? or would it be better to just upgrade the GPU to an GTX 1070? would my PC bottleneck a GTX 1070? I don't plan on going VR or 4K anytime soon, I'll be sticking to 1080p or 1440p.

The 980 ti...
I fancy staying 1080p for another year or so, I dont have the money to afford them yet so would the best bet be upgrading it gradually? so should I go for the GTX 1060 which is £250, and then upgrade other areas later date when it needs it?, my i5 4460k hasn't struggled on any game I've played so far even on high/ultra settings (GTA V, F1 2016, Project Cars, BF4 etc) I would like to run at ultra on 60+ fps on all games, so it's just the matter of the GPU, is the GTX 1070 worth the £150 more than the 1060? if I can run GTA V on pretty much everything on ultra wouldn't 1070 be overkill?, what PSU do I need to run the GTX 1060 & 1070?

GTX 1070 on 1080p 60Hz is overkill for the most part. A GTX 1060 or RX 480 would do fine, but you shouldn't get a new GPU without upgrading your PSU.

Here's a couple of power supplies that are very good.

SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151119&cm_re=seasonic_gold-_-17-151-119-_-Product)

EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 220-G2-0550-Y1 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438053&cm_re=evga_supernova-_-17-438-053-_-Product)

If you can find a power supply on this list in Tier 1 or 2 for cheaper, then go for it. I've seen the two above on sale before for less. (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html)

I'm from UK not USA and I don't think I can get those in UK, Is the RX 480 8GB better than the GTX 1060 6GB? also can I ask why I should upgrade my PSU? is this any good?

Also, my processor like I stated before hasn't struggled with anything so far on alot of demanding games that I play but, would it be worth an upgrade? are there any CPU's that are better than the i5 4460k that are worth it in performance? sub £300.

EDIT: Okay I've found that EVGA SuperNova PSU, which is only £75 so I'll get that now to determine why I need it and what else to get.

Your current power supply is borderline for the hardware you currently have. I'm surprised a PC company would have sold one with only a 300W for a GTX 960 (which should have had a 400W at least). Basically, for a midrange card like a GTX 1060 you should have something like 450W on up. A decent 500W would be plenty. I have this model paired with an i5-4690k and a GTX 950 SLI. Its totally fine.

Jeff, I built the PC myself and I don't actually think it is a 300w I dont remember what it is it might even be a 350 or 450, and I wouldn't call a GTX 1060 "mid-range" & I have no budget, but I don't want to spend what I don't need to

EDIT: I opened up my PC and it's a Corsair VS 450 PSU my motherboard is a H81M+, should I upgrade my motherboard instead of the PSU, I've heard that 2.0 PCI express would seriously bottleneck a GTX 1060 or R9 480X, could I run the GTX 1060 or R9 480X on 450 PSU?

what case do you have. prob a videocard+powersupply upgrade would help

I don't think the processor needs updating considering its doing its job now. the power supply looks good enough to me i personally would sell the GTX 960 2GB and get a SSD for booting windows and get the RX 480X 8GB and overclock it by 10% 8gb ram is fine for 95% of gaming i am using 8GB right now and don't use anywhere near its limit:-D

PCIE 2.0 will not affect the GTX 1060. Your power supply will be fine if you don't overclock. All you need (or want) is a GPU upgrade. RX 480 or GTX 1060 will be a great fit for your system. Although, I would consider that the RX 480 does use more power, which would be pushing the limits of your PSU.

Before finding out yesterday that Battlefield 1 runs better with an RX 480 than a 1060 (backwards from how the BETA ran), I would have recommended the 1060. But maybe it depends on the games you play, RX 480 and GTX 1060 swap back and forth on which card performs better.

Thanks for all your responses I didn't get notified about someone replying to my thread so I got here little late, I still haven't made my mind up yet hopefully we can put an end to this, I've spent couple days looking at all GPU's and forum threads etc, however I might bump up my budget depending on if it's worth it:

I've seen used good con GTX 980Ti go for £300-£350 6-8GB Vram
GTX 1070 for £400
GTX 1060 for £250

Is the GTX 1070 really worth the £150 increase? does the GTX 980ti out perform the GTX 1070? if I can get a GTX 980Ti for £300 should I get that? put yourself in my situation, you have £400 spare cash lying around and you want to upgrade from a GTX 960 2GB, you play 1080p at 60hz what would you buy and why?

The 980 ti is very close to a 1070
the 1070 is not worth it if its over $100 more

BUT, you would need a good 650w power supply

Solution
I personal suggestion is just to upgrade it as if you buy the new one some other new technology and new products will come then again you have to update so best is use it for 2 more years and then buy the latest one.
