My GPU is blocking my SATA ports and my ram has problems, I want to fix these issues by buying a new motherboard and ram but with the presence of AM5 it makes me question whether it would be worth it at all. Sure it's cheaper to just buy new parts as opposed to upgrading to AM5 but I feel like it's significantly less worth it. It's just that I don't really play games, I only have a 5 5500 and a 6650 XT, but it's enough to run just about any game I want to play (with Baldur's Gate 3 being the only one that has issues (mostly later in the campaign where it gets crowded with a lot of entities), so realistically, even if I upgrade to something like a 5700x3d it's gonna last for a good while since I'm not asking for much in terms of performance. There's also the fact previous gen parts are actually decreasing in price in my third world country.

That is soooo individual question depending on means and needs. You have to weigh in that newer platform would afford you longer use and possibility of easier updates of HW. On the other hand, it's much higher cost investment requiring MB, CPU and RAM at least. Now you have in reality bottom end Ryzen 5500 that is just a pretty crippled 5600(X) from low end in series. Even 5600x and certainly 5700x without 3D would be improvement. Not all games, specially older ones can benefit of that extended cache. So that's what I would recommend on your case, upgrade to 5700x which is easy to cool and switch to while you can still sell your 5500 for decent price

For more sata ports you can install additional pcie sata controller card.
For ram problems you either tune ram settings or get new ram.

No need for new motherboard there.
sadly occupied by my WiFi card, there's also the fact I kinda want more m.2 slots and pcie slots, not a necessity tho.

yeah my 5500 isn't the best, but that's why I feel like I should stay on am4, because it does everything I want perfectly. like you said even the 5600x would be a massive improvement.
