Hey there , im currently running an MSI Raddeon HD 6770 and i must say , its one of the best graphic cards i've ever come across considering value\performance , solid 45 FPS on BF:3 with settings set to High , so my question is , should i upgrade to a Nvidia 670 ( propably asus or the evga ftw but that's another story) or should i keep my money and wait for the 7xx series to come out?

Well, since AMD still has the better price/performance a 670 seems out of the question vs an AMD card, especially with their new drivers in BF3. BUT the AMD 8XXXs will be out soon so might want to wait. vs nvidia's 7xxs which will take a lot longer.

But, if you are getting 45fps on a really low end card, in one of the most graphic intensive games there is no reason to upgrade. You must be on a very low resolution.

I agree with the low resolution. Why not buy a better monitor instead?

Monitor is 1920x1080 , running the game on the same resolution with high graphics , and still getting 45 fps 😀

Well , maybe a wee bit , but im running BF pretty smoothly nevertheless , i just want to upgrade because i was really saving up for it + the fact that i will be streaming some "demanding" games like MW3 , WoW and so on !

K. I am sorry. I just lost it when you called a COD game demanding. Especially VS BF3. LOL. That was a good one mate. Still laughing

wow_1920_1200.gif

bf3_1920_1200.gif

it appears they trade blows in those two games, too bad MW3 isn't tested much by sites any more.

though to be honest, i can't see how a 5% or less difference can be called a win . . more like a tie.

bottom line is both cards will serve you well, get the better priced card, whatever gpu it has.

edit: btw, nvidia has a beta also:
The Battle of the Betas: Catalyst 12-11 vs. GeForce 310.33 – HD 7970 GHz vs GTX 680 revisited

i wonder what all the stink is about AMD releasing a driver that improves performance, shouldn't it do that or is that something new?

^old benchmarks, not counting the new drivers with 15%.improvement, the prices, or the better over clocking.for AMD.

I think where we should look is the 6790.at 21FPS.... Vs the OPs claim of 45FPS on a 6770....

Plus WOW running better. And COD being A.D. joke on graphics. The OP may not be able to measure FPS, but if it runs BF3 fine for him it will run the rest

Well these benchmarks just have the Nvidia 670 with no aftermarket cooler + OC right?
I was thinking about the Asus GTX 670 DirectCU2 non top which is said to outperform the 680 by 2-3%
and guess what? 40pounds cheaper than the 7970 😀

without knowing the exact models, i would believe those are "stock" cards.

pardon me for not citing the article in the first post:
AMD Catalyst 12.11 Performance Analysis

The 670 is to this generation what the 560 Ti was to last. The 670 has been the out and out price / performance leader with more than double the sales .... 2.5+ times that of any AMD 7xxx card on the market ..... and that despite the AMD cards being out as much as 4 times as long. Lotta talk of late about AMD's new driver performance but for whatever reason, the Techpowerup reference quoted compares AMD cards using new drivers with nVidia cards with drivers that are two generations old.

I'm reserving judgement till I see a comparison where both use current drivers but with major brand factory overclocked 670's available as low as $313 - MSI N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC with the corresponding 7970 from MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5/OC at $405, the 7970 would have to be 34% faster to give the same bang for the buck when costing $92 more. It's not.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/23.html

With both cards using older drivers....the 670 was 4% faster overall than the 7970 at 1920 x 1200. With the new Catalyst drivers on the 7970 and the two generations old drivers on the 670, the 7970 is 3% faster. So ignoring for the moment that the test used new AMD drivers and 2 generations old nVidia drivers, we have a 3% performance advantage costing us whopping 34% more putting the price / performance ration clearly in nVidia's hands....each 1% performance improvement is costing us roughly 10% increase in price.

Even the cheapest "off brand" 7970 (from HIS) card is 18% more....that's way too much for a 3% performance advantage and that's *if* that advantage holds up when new drivers from nVidia are used in the comparison.

At 1920 x 1200, I'd grab the factory OC'd MSI 670 in a heartbeat

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127675

$370 - 10% off w/ promo code HARDOCP11X8G, ends 11/13 - $20 MIR = $313

On the other hand, if ya find the 4 games (FarCry3, HitMan, Sleeping Dogs, Medal of Honor WarFighter Limited Edition) are not already in your collection and you were gonna buy them anyway, it might be worth the extra $92 to spring for the 7970. The other consideration is that if playing at 2560 x 1600, the 7970 is a stronger card than the 670 at that resolution.....whether it's $92 better is up to you.

i skipped this at first but seeing
15%.improvement
irked me.

those are with the new drivers and there is NO 15% improvement!
7750 - 1% improvement
7770 - 2%
7850 -3%
7870 - 7%
7950 - 6%
7970 - 7%
7970 Ghz Ed. 8%

please i do not wish to have a "discussion" but lets have valid facts and not AMD PR.

Putting aside performance , there ARE other variables that must be taken into consideration when in front of a GPU buy if im not mistaken , and i really have to say that by reading A TON of reviews that the 670 excells both in temperatures and noise levels compared to the 7970 , what good would a fast card that runs on 90 degress do to me if i ever want to try SLI ? Just sayian! :sarcastic:

To answer the OP question - there are two universal truths to buying computer gear.

1) If you wait things will get better.
2) If you are always waiting for the next best thing you will be waiting forever.

If you have a current rig that is doing everything you need it to do - you should wait.

I would wait at this point for the next series if you are currently satisfied. Also, I smell a TON of AMD fanboys here. I have an Asus GTX 670 DirectCUII TOP (didn't wanna worry about overclocking) and I average 84 FPS (checked with Fraps 3 times and then averaged) on BF3 at 1080p on Ultra. I have an i5 3570k at stock clocks as well. Nvidia makes cards just as well as AMD, and with the 7970 being beat by the 670 in some games, it's a seriously strong performer.

That's all I have to say....alright AMD boys you may yell at me now.

I may as well go for the asus directcu2 non top and maybe add a FTW in later on for my SLI ;D

First it's crossfire

Second, 90 degrees? Where the hell food you hear that? Lol

No way that card will give you 45 Fps steady with that resolution and the specs on that card. Maybe you can cap at 45 frames when nothing is happening.

670 Is a great card for the price and will last you a good bit. May not keep 60+ Fps all the time on full ultra but its a lot better of a card then what your running right now, A lot better.

I dont mingle with details 😛 and yeah 83 on load arent good temps imo http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7970_GHz_Edition/32.html

Very well then , the Asus directcu2 670 it is :ange:
