well
old cards tended to draw more power

a gtx 1050 might be as strong as a 580
but will take 5x less power

my pc takes about 25w on idle
but on heavy load it might get up to as high as 450w 500w
no measurement, just estimates baised on my hardware (gtx 1080 strix, i7 8700k..)

But it doesnt. I upgraded from a 1050 to a 580. The 580 doubl3s my framerate with the 1050 when not cpu limited.

I will say my 1050 ran really cool and never draw over 75w (no power connector)

My RX 580 runs hot and draws a lot of power.
Its actually a nitro 480 with a 580 bios. It has to have power limits and mV maxed out to run stable. Hence the extreme power consumption.
 
My RX480 does 1300MHz @ 1.02V and 115-125W.

Total system power draw from a kill a watt meter at the wall under Prime95 + FurMark (i5-3570K @ 4.3GHz + RX480 @ 1.3GHz) = 265W. Accounting for my PSUs ~90% efficiency, that's ~240W load on the PSU.

Thanks, this is useful as I'm about to upgrade to an RX480 from a much lower spec GPU and I was wondering if my PSU could handle it.

Well every time my ac or heatpump turns on my computer screen flickers.

Also if i plug something into the same wall socket while my pc is running my monitor goes to a static screen untill i power my pc down.


I believe there are some issues with my house wiring, which is odd since my house is only 15yrs old.

What can I say? I'm a power-hog.

The bad thing about it is that I run mine on 230VAC (UPSes for that voltage aren't cheap), and the lights still dim. Then again, all the lighting is LED, so it might just be the third-order harmonics on the power lines interacting with each other; and the LED lighting in this end of the house is balanced across the same branch circuit--so, there you go.

I'm not inclined to go scurrying through the attic to pull another branch circuit just for the lighting....well, not this year, at any rate.
