It is my understanding that flash chip lose their data and/or the data becomes corrupted after a period of months without power (e.g., after a year or so). Therefore, this article's suggestion that flash drives will be / should be used for "long term storage" is simply bad judgment and wrong, assuming that this issue of data loss after some period without power is not solved.
