Skyrim stopped reading my saves?

So I have been playing Skyrim for the past 2 weeks or so off and on and my playtime has been up to about 42 hours. I have the Nexus Mod Manager downloaded and have 23 mods downloaded like SkyUI, some graphics mods, new world map etc.

But just about a few hours ago I played the game for about 2 hours when I went to save it and I noticed my saved game wouldn't show up in the load menu. I'm stuck at a point where I can only load my previous saved games and cannot save or auto-save at all past my save #183.

Some things I noticed was that my "saved" files would show up in the saves folder in my Skyrim saves directory but they would not show up in the game. I also saw that all the "saved" files were all marked #183.

I tried emptying the save folder and starting a fresh one, but that didn't seem to work. I tried validating my game files for Skyrim on the steam client but that didn't work either. I also tried completely re-installing the game and the mod manager to see if that did anything but it didn't... I tried disabling all the mods on the Nexus Mod Manager but I still could not save my game and have it show up on the load menu.

I've been at a loss on what to do now and if anyone could please help me it would be much appreciated! I don't want to lose my character 🙁 (I realize people lose characters with 1000+ hours but it would be nice if I could save mine).

Yes, you have to run Skyrim via the SKSE launcher, even if you just have something like SKYUI.

Honestly, you might just have an easier time deleting Skyrim via IOBit uninstaller, reinstalling it, and giving it another shot. I had to do that about three times when I first started modding skyrim. Obviously this will delete your saves, but if you really want them you can copy the save files over to a flash drive or uploading them to a cloud service.

This series is a series by a very popular Skyrim Modder named Gopher, it's a step by step guide on how to properly set up skyrim and begin modding, I followed it when I first started and it's absolutely invaluable to someone who's never done it before.

No i'm not running LOOT or BOSS. btw thanks for quick reply

Do that, and definitely download and run LOOT. If you don't, it's ineveitable that you're going to get a CTD that won't resolve until you do. Also, it's advisable to rus Tes5Edit on the update, dawnguard, dragonborn, and hearthfire .esm files

Alright, well I just downloaded and ran LOOT and it told me i had a warning on my update.esm file, so I downloaded tes5edit and ran that filtered for cleaning, and followed a video off of youtube on how to clean the update.esm file. Then I ran the verify game cache on steam. I launched skyrim with the skse launcher and it did not help my problem :/ was I not supposed to launch it with skse? because I noticed i had problems first opening tes5edit i had to run the game on steam to get the basic registries so tes5edit would even open to skyrim. After I fixed that and cleaned the update file and got rid of the 'dirty' files I launched skyrim via skse and now when i tried to open tes5edit again its back to the could not open registry key thing I had to bypass the first time just to get onto tes5edit in the first place.

P.S. I don't own the dlc if that changes anything

Hmm its weird, now it wont even let me open the NMM... it just keeps saying

BOSS_API_ERROR_FILE_DELETE_FAIL: "C:\Users\mypc\AppData\Local\Skyrim\loadorder.txt.new" cannot be deleted! Filesystem response: "boost::filesystem::remove: Access is denied: "C:\Users\mypc\AppData\Local\Skyrim\loadorder.txt.new"".

If i then delete the loadorder.txt.new it takes like 5 minutes to open the NMM and starts just empty white and takes a while to load up, and sometimes just goes right to not responding and I need to wait another 5 minutes or close out of it.

I tried to fix my problems, but eventually it just led to me wiping my computer because I was planning on doing it soon anyways. It fixed my problems right away and now I don't have to worry about any of these errors coming up :) thanks for you help anyways and I will check out gopher's videos to stop problems in the furture
