Hi,

I'm currently building a new system that will likely be based around Gigabyte 965P-DS3P and E4300. I plan on overclocking (with a Tuniq Tower 120 I already own).

So my question is to do with RAM and their 'speed.' Am I right in thinking since the E4300 has a lower FSB and higher multiplier I can get away with 667MHz RAM? instead of 800MHz needed for E6300 and above?

Also, overclockers.co.uk have a sale on GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency RAM and it has become just a tiny bit more expensive than similar 667MHz models. So is it worth going for the 800MHz since they're so cheap with the sale? ... If I did do this would it mean having to set strange FSB to RAM ratio's?

Or would my life be a whole lot easier with 667MHz RAM and standard 1:1?

Thanks for your time, much appreciated!

1. Yes, that's right. The E4300 running @ 3.0GHz(333x9) only needs DDR2-667...for 1:1. Whereas, the E6300 running @3.0GHz will need DDR2-858(429x7) for 1:1.

2. If they are similarly priced, i would get the Geil PC6400. No, you won't have to set any strange FSB:RAM ratios. GL :)

P965 chipsets are picky with ram timings and voltages.

Choose wisely, grasshopper!

Thanks for your responses guys!

I will do some research on what RAM is compatible with the board I'm likely to get, had better make it quick though because the sale is a 'one week' deal.

Gotta say this is a pretty exciting venture this building a PC business :D
