Hi Community!

I've been experiencing some game stuttering recently and did some digging as to what could be the issue. I bought this P3 2TB SSD a few months ago and never had any issues until recently.

I've run a few CrystalDiskMark tests, and the SEQ Read/Write numbers look fine, but my 4k write especially seems a little slow.

Here are some of the test results:

I've used the tests at ssd-tester.com and a P3 vs P3 Plus SSD comparison as references:
https://ssd-tester.com/crucial_p3_2tb.html

I'm not sure if this might be the cause of my in-game stuttering, but I'm at my wits end.

Thanks in advance

update the BIOS of your motherboard

to have a look what the problem could be:
run userbenchmark.com and post the http link of your result, e.g. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/28977730

check windows integrity
open the command prompt as administrator and type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...em-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

clean boot
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

check the memory by running memtest.org usb autoinstaller (bootable USB flash drive)

check the hard drive for errors with its manufacturer´s tool and if available, update the firmware

use ddu uninstaller and reinstall the latest graphics driver

What game?
What video resolution are you using?

Game stuttering can be attributed to:
cpu overheating,
gpu overheating,
system running out of ram,
graphics card running out of vram.
Probably has nothing to do with your SSD.
Run your game and monitor cpu/gpu usage, cpu/gpu temperatures, ram/vram usage with MSI afterburner.

Have you tried running Crucial Storage Executive to update the firmware and check diagnostics?
I did, and it tells me it cannot connect to the servers. But I did some research and no firmware updates are available for the P3 for some reason. So the firmware is up to date.

CPU and GPU temps are fine. CPU maxes out at 50c on max load. GPU maxes out around 65c at most.
Usage on my CPU/GPU hardly maxes out ever.

I still want to find out if my SSD is showing poor 4k Read/Write numbers.

I wonder if there's some other hidden background process that might be the culprit. Especially if you 'can't connect to the servers' for some reason. E.g. Windows update daemon being itself.

I'd be curious what CrystalDiskMark would report if you run in offline safe mode.

Game stuttering comes down usually to these reasons and should be troubleshooted, driver needs updating or needs to be back tracked to an earlier driver, the motherboard needs updating for chipset/me drivers, Hardware is not good enough to run the updated game/s anymore, the gpu settings need adjusting, the ram in your pc may not be running at its desired speed, in game settings need adjustment, pc power settings need tweaking, test to see if the pc game mode makes it better or worse and too many things open in the background while gaming. You can also go in to device manager and line by line manually check for any driver updates.

I recently got a Crucial P3 Plus 2TB and everything was fine until one day the drive started to have abysmal write speeds for no reason (90MB/s).
The drive is only used as storage (no OS or installed games) and was only 59% full so plenty of space left for pSLC.
I didn't do anything heavy with it. I tried to write on it a game of 7GB after downloading a 13GB movie via torrent. Ever since that day, the drive drops to super slow speeds randomly. It's like the drive forgets to trigger the cleaning process and stays in QLC state even though there are more than 10-15 hours of idle times.
Prior to that I used it in a lot more heavy scenarios than this and it worked at full speed.
Just like you I tried to do a firmware update but the software says it can't connect to the server. Searching manually I couldn't find anything on their website either.
Crucial Storage Executive is super slow. It takes forever to open up and moving trough the options is also super slow.

I tried the Over Provisioning feature (manually set 8% OP aka 149GB) and it seems to work because I haven't had any issues since.

Try the OP and hopefully, it will help in your case too. Let me know how it is.
