XP Pro Sp2 - when I startup (with SOS switch in boot.ini) there is a long
pause after the drive tests and the Welcome Screen withg no apparent drive
activity. Event Viewer always shows a long pause as in the example below

Time Source Category Event
21:52:26 SecurityCenter None 1800
21:53:11 ESENT General 100
21:53:11 ESENT General 102
21:56:28 LoadPerf None 1001
21:56:28 LoadPerf None 1000

Can anyone please suggest a reason for the long delay between the third and
fourth events.

Hi there,

Try the below step:

1. Click Start, run, type "Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks" (with
out quotation marks) and click OK.

For more information, see here:

** SP2 causes system boot times to slow down is discussed in the above site.
