Just assembled my new Windows 10 PC: i7-6700, asus 170i pro gaming, samsung 850EVO 500GB, 16GB RAM, and I'm really shocked about the slow performance when unpacking .zip files.

This one takes more than 30 seconds :pfff:
intel vga driver from asus site

CPU utilization is 20-35%. Disk write speeds between 2MB/s - 55MB/s.
On my work laptop with an older i7 cpu, less ram and slower ssd - it takes 10 seconds!

How can this be?

It could be the drivers for the motherboard aren't installed. Like the Chipset driver.

the windows unzipper isn't particularly very good either, you may need something like WinRAR to get good results.

You also may need to check your power settings to make sure it isn't set to power-saving mode or something.

WinRar is definetely faster (thanks!): now "just" 16 seconds. But it's still way to slow. Latest drivers have been installed.
Reedo_43, thanks for testing. Would like to hear more results though.
Guess I'll be heading for the BIOS.

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop with i7- 6700@HQ CPU @ 2.60 GHz (8CPUs), ~ 2.6GHz 16GB RAM running Windows 10 Home 64 bit and I am having the exact same problem.
It's just taking way too long to unpack large RAR files.

The strange thing is, I previously had a lower performing Inspiron 13 that I had returned to Best Buy that did not have this problem! It unpacked all RAR files in a blink of an eye.

The Inspiron 13 also seemed a bit faster at transferring files via the USB 3 ports as well.

I updated all the Chipset drivers and the BIOS through the Dell Help & Support software so I'm not sure what other settings I can do to boost performance but this makes no sense how the latest CPU can unpack files this slowly. Honestly, it doesn't seem that much faster than my 5 year old Asus laptop.🙁
