Quick question. Is it worth upgrading my SM951 to Pro 950 with obviously NVMe.

I got SM951 in OEM packaging when M.2 just came out as a thing. I can't quite figure out if it worth an upgrade. I mean on paper random access speed is off the chart yet in real life will it make my system faster ? I'll use it as a boot drive and if it's that good I'll put my main games into it instead of my 2x 850 Pro RAID0 SSD Array.

Thanks guys.

Yes!

I did exactly that. And I liked it so much I did it three more times!
I went from SM951 AHCI 256GB to 950 Pro 512 (The 512gb has better speeds).
My kids say their system is more responsive and games load noticeably faster
We are all on Windows 7 x64

Here, the SM961 512gb is around $350 AUD, and the 950 pro is $405. So the SM961 certainly looks more attractive

I noticed that in one case the maximum sequential write speed of one of the SM961 drives (might have been the 256gb), is marginally slower than the 950 Pro 512gb. 1400MBbs vs 1500MBs. So you might want to start at 512gb

I guess over time, they too will drop in price, and if you wait too long the SM971/970 Pro will be released (speculation of course, who knows what Samsung will call their next drive)

It depends on how urgent your need is I suppose - it might take a few weeks for the 961's to be readily available.

I can't comment on SM961 real life experience as I haven't got one, and don't plan to. I'll wait for it's successor, since I only recently purchased the 950 Pro's

There will always be something newer and faster...

My next upgrade will be a I7-6900K.. But I'll wait as they are $1650 AUD.
