Smaller Sized Heatsink Recommendation Please

Hi, I just bought a Thermaltake Golden Orb for my celeron 600. It's installed on an Abit Slotket, but it just BARELY fits in my case. This isn't a problem of height, but one of width, it is taller than the slotket, and as I only have less than 1/4" of clearance above the slotket, the orb is touching the power supply. I had to remove the power supply to get it in, and I can't take my motherboard tray out without removing the cpu, and therefore the power supply. This isn't too big a deal, except I would be happier if I had a good heatsink that didn't extend higher than the top of the slotket. Can anyone recommend one to me that they know from experience is only as tall as the slotket? And preferably not so tall as to block out DIMM 1 on my Soyo SBA+IV, (unless, contrary to Soyo's instructions, it is not necessary to put ram in DIMM 1 when using bus speeds in excess of 100mhz). I would be greatly appreciative. TIA.

Maybe I should ask a more specific question here. Can someone out there running a Globalwin FOP38 on a slotket take a look and let me know if it is taller than the slotket card, and if so, by approx. how much? Lots of sites list the dimensions, (70x62x37mm) but don't say specifically which of those dimensions is what. TIA.

I just finished my 600 setup last night. The fan selection is the hardest part with these setups. The orb is 70mm wide the smaller orb is 64mm wide many are 60mm and some less. You can probably use one 64 but Im going to suggest you stay with one 60mm, which is as wide as the fan on top. A lot of posters shy away from the orbs. Mine was tight with 60mm sink. As for height some are very tall and will be too close to dimm slot. pep is 90mm but alpha 6035 is about 60mm according to specs. Look at this page for some good choices. I went with the Vantec big blue which is 60mm wide and not too tall. It was only 13.00 and is working fine. The only thing I did which may not be necessary is to sand all the blue annodizing off the bottom with 1500 and then 2000 grit wet/dry paper to a shiny polished surface and used arctic II paste on the sink. I didn't risk sanding the top of the chip. I am running 600 @ 928mhz and bumped my voltage down .05 below spec of 1.70v (1.65v) BTW You will have to flash your bios so make sure you download most current version for mb and expand on a bootable floppy and flash bios before you change out chips. good luck! Talk about tight fit, I had to pull mb and cards to change slot bracket, remove ps fan guard and jam card in hard while pushing to get past tray opening! I was running a 300a @ 464mhz so I doubled my speed for about $100 bucks.

Thanks for the reply, right now I have the 70mm Orb, and things are running okay, I guess I don't really want to move down to a smaller size, as temps are high enough anyways. I may actually try switching to the FOP-32 to bring temps down, I also want to try the arctic silver, but am waiting to have some other things to order to save on shipping. I tried some radio shack thermal compound, but that actually RAISED temps by about 6 celcius over the compound that came on the orb stock! I'm running mine at 1050mhz @1.95 volts right now, but temps are really too high for me to want to run with this setup for too long. Can anyone reccomend a good beginners tutorial for getting started with peltiers? Thanks!

i would of thought that the slotkey would break with a FOP. Imagine with a hedgehog. Its only PCB though.

Anyway the alpha coolers are shorter but if u like orbs there is the mini super orb.
