Smith Armor & Char Help

Is there any suggestions as to what which runic hammers and what metals make
the best armor? I checked out stratics and burned up two bronze hammers
making Verite Plate Armor.
I keep hearing rumors that the tailor armor is actually better and that I
should save the runic hammers to make weapons with.
I haven't checked stratics on the leather type armors.

In case it is needed my character I am trying to outfit is a female warrior,
her skills are:
Anatomy - 100
Eval Int - 32.2
Focus - 82.8
Healing - 91.6 (105 cap)
Magery - 39.7
Meditation - 58.7
Parrying - 79.3 (105 cap)
Resisting Spells - 28.6
Swordsmanship - 97.7 (110 cap)
Tactics - 106.1 (110 cap)

The Mage skills I do not rely on, I gained those early on in UO when I
didn't know about skill locks, they are currently locked down. This
character is pretty much a hack and slash - get in close and hope I win :)

Any suggestions on the armor or on the character template would be
wonderful!
TIA
Paul

Turn down Eval int and magery and meditation and replace it with
chivalry. It'll make you twice as good. Lock Focus. It's just where
you want it at about 80. You only need to get Chivalry to 70 or so
which should leave you room to GM the rest of your fighting skills.

As far as making armor with a runic. You have a small chance of making
something decent with a bronze. I certainly wouldn't bother making
plate though. Except for the gorget, ring and chain is every bit as
good and doesn't take 90 strength to wear.

Personally, I'm not wearing a single piece of crafted armor anymore.
Enhancing stuff you pick up as loot is the way to go IMO.

I have - locked down in someone's house. In over 2 years the best
I've ever gotten off an NPC smith is verite, however.

You forgot to mention that barbed kits are about the same difficulty to
pull as gold hammers, and make armor with more properties and higher
intensities.

2.5 years, 192,000 smith BODs collected, and I got 1 20n valorite plate
tunic BOD. That's the only valorite. No joke. UO hates me.

Not quite. I have only had two gold hammers in the history of BOD's.
I have 6 Barbed sewing kits in my sewing chest at this time and I have
used that many for armor for my characters and for friends.
IMHO, the good smith BOD's are MUCH harder to get than good sewing
kits.

If you only have one Tailor, your lucky to have got even one Horned
Runic kit. There are three of us that put our BOD's together. I
have three Tailor/Smiths, plus my main Smith and main Tailor, Ali has
a Tailor/Smith and Connie has two Tailor/Smiths. That's a total of
up to 7 BOD's every 6 hours, but I only get BOD's about once a day
with them, so I do not maximize the possibilities the way some people
do.
I developed the extra Tailor/Smith's when it became obvious that it
was the only way we were ever going to be able to get Runic
Hammers and Runic sewing kits.

We still do not get enough good Runic's to sell, or even sell armor.
We get enough to supply our own characters with armor and weapons.
I have never got better than a Gold Runic Hammer, and only two of
them. The Barbed Sewing Kits have been a little easer to get, and
they make very good light weight armor.

You also need storage space for hundreds of BOD's. Even in the BOD
books, it takes up a LOT of space.

EA made it hard to get the Runic's, then made it even harder
because of the "profiteers" like the BOD's R US people.
You can blame the "profiteers" for all of it, as usual. There seems
to always be someone that spoils it for the casual player. 🙁

Well, I collected BODs uber hard-core for around 2 and a half years. I had
to get some good stuff eventually :). As a side note, how many BOD
collectors do you have, and what skill are they? If you are serious about
BODs, the best investment you can make is GMing your tailor. It just takes
20-25k cloth, and there is a rather noticable increase in quality of BODs
pulled.

My Tailor is at 107.9 skill. Its also a blacksmith but I really havn't tried
developing that skill well. Just over 75. As faras bods go. I got like 300+
of each in small bods and around10-15 large bods for each. By the way. Is
there any perticular place to go to get bods for making shoes? I got like 3
large bods I could finish if I could get one for shoes. I remeber getting
them all the time when I first started that character. I was still "young"
then though. *kicks self*

I think the magic number for shoe bods is somewhere between 50-60. After
that they are kind of difficult, especially 20's. BTW, you can use any shoe
BOD, doesn't have to be plain leather, can be spined, horned or barbed.

If you only want small, normal footwear BODs, then collect with a character
in the 20-50 tailor skill range. At that level they give you BODs for
things that will "help you gain your skill", and those tend to be various
and sundry footwear BODs. If you need larges or exceptionals/colors, then
you just need to play the lottery with a high skill character. Any possible
bugs aside, once you pass 70 there is no special weight given to any "type"
of BOD (meaning armor, footwear, etc).
