Hey guys, any of you know about these things? I see a couple of them on ebay(<A HREF="http://cgi.ebay.ca/Asus-Socket-370-to-Slot-1-CPU-Adapter-Converter_W0QQitemZ6795406553QQcategoryZ164QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem" target="_new">here</A> and <A HREF="http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-Abit-Socket-370-to-Slot-1-CPU-Adapter-Converter_W0QQitemZ6796573030QQcategoryZ164QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem" target="_new">here</A>), and I'm wondering if they'll work. I just got a Pentium III 866MHz Coppermine (SL4CB) from work, and want to toss it in my Asus P3B-F Motherboard.

Thanks

One of those was an Abit Slotket III, which was just about the best adapter you could buy prior to the Upgradeware Slot-T adapter. The Slot-T supports both Coppermines and Tualatins, but because it's relatively modern, you'll pay a relatively modern $20 for it. So you save money with the Abit Slotket III, but loose your ability to do a later Tualatin upgrade.

I should mention that I had a Tualatin Celeron 1.1 at 150MHz bus/1650MHz CPU and 1.65v on a P3B-F using the Slot-T.

Sweet Crashman, thanks for the update. Already bought and paid for, just need to go pick it up today (yay same city). A little thermal paste, and I'm off to the races.

I'm sure it'll make a lot more sense to me once I see it, but how does cooling work with these adapters? Do I use the HSF that was with the Coppermine, or is there a different one that I need?

You just clip on a standard sized Socket 370 cooler. Most standard-sized Socket 7 and Socket 462 (Athlon) coolers also work. What doesn't work is oversized coolers.

Well picked up the card and some thermal paste. With a bit of fighting, managed to get the cooler on there (didn't fit nicely), and now have tossed the card and processor in, and the system is up and running, with a noticible difference in it's responsiveness. Also, discovered that the proccessor that was previously in here was also attached via a socket 370 ==> slot 1 adapter 😛 Oh well. Need one anyways to drop my old processor into my parents machine. Thanks for the help guys.

Giving it a couple days at stock, then I will. Also need to toss in a fan as the case I currently have for the system doens't have any blowing besides the PSU.

Should be good, especially considering this system's just becoming a server box in a week.
