[Solved] ACER aspire 5100 D2D recovery

Acer 5100. No recovery discs. Alt+F10 started the recovery software (acer product) - afted D2D enabled. About 3/4 of the entire 10 minute process is visible and active in window. Laptop sleeps or shutdowns and does nothing after. Anytime I turn it on get black screen and single unresponsive cursor in upper left hand corner.

Why does this appear to be hung? Any ideas on what I can do?
