<SOLVED>
I've had a motherboard for a while that has had a problem...
The top PCIE x16 slot works with an old GT 710 (pcie 2.0x8 runs @x8) but not a gtx 1650 (pcie3.0x16).
Specs are as follows:
- 16gb ddr4 3200 2x8gb
- ryzen 3800x
- GTX 1650 / GT 710
- MSI mb X570 gaming edge wifi
SOLUTION:
Hope this helps someone instead of them having to figure it out by themselves like I had to 😀
I've had a motherboard for a while that has had a problem...
The top PCIE x16 slot works with an old GT 710 (pcie 2.0x8 runs @x8) but not a gtx 1650 (pcie3.0x16).
- Both gpus work
- Chipset x16@x4 slot works with both
- GTX 1650 does not have power connectors I doubt it is a psu issue
- BIOS does not even detect GTX1650 but does GT710
- Running gtx 1650 on chipset slot and GT710 on dodgy x16 slot, both are detected, but not vice versa.
- No video at all when 1650 in top slot and VGA error light (no boot)
- If 1650 in top slot but 710 in bottom no errors but 1650 not recognised by bios or windows
Specs are as follows:
- 16gb ddr4 3200 2x8gb
- ryzen 3800x
- GTX 1650 / GT 710
- MSI mb X570 gaming edge wifi
SOLUTION:
- The fact the GT710 that was wired x8 worked led me to believe there was something wrong with the rest of the pins in the x16 slot
- So I used masking tape to tape the extra unused pins on the GT710's pcie connector to see if it would then still work in that slot.
- And so it worked...
- I did the same with the GTX1650 so it would only connect in x8 (leaving 57 pins on each side untapped) to bypass the faulty pins in the slot
- this worked
Hope this helps someone instead of them having to figure it out by themselves like I had to 😀
