[SOLVED] Solved: Hot swap bays

I am looking for one of these bays. Mainly to change out drives primay linux OS to the testing drive . Though does the motherboard have to support hotswap? Though technically will not be changing drives with the system on just want easy access to change drives.

Agreed, you are not hot swapping so for sure yes. If you do want to actually hot swap you will need to enable that for each specific SATA port in the bios, as they are each individually controlled and in the disable default on most boards.

I do it all the time and never shtudown, too time consuming for impatient me.
 
The "hot swap" technology is built into SATA drives and cables. It works by connecting the ground pins first and then the power and data pins. You can see it if you look closely at the connectors. The ground connections are a bit longer than the others so they make contact first.

It doesn't have anything to do with the motherboard.
