Hey guys,

First time posting on this forum and was hoping someone would be able to help me out.

Current setup:

CPU: i7-6700k
Motherboard: MSI z170a Gaming M5
RAM: G Skill Ripjaw DDR4 2133 MHZ
Graphics Card: MSI GTX1070 Gaming X
Cooling: Corsair H100i V2

So my question is that my CPU is constantly idling at 90+ degrees. Originaly I haven't noticed until recently my CPU started throttling. Room temperature is probably around 10-15 degrees celsius. I have left the case open for more air ventilation.

I have tried all of the following methods:

  1. Re-doing the thermal paste (at least like 4 times)
  2. Reseatting the heatsink
  3. Tapping to see can I dislodge some air bubbles
  4. Making sure that my voltage is not OC (it is currently running floating at 1-1.2?)
  5. Cleaned out all the dust.
Tried all of the above methods and it just wouldn't work so, I am at a complete lost and hope someone would be able to help me out.

I am suspecting if my H100 v2 started to fail on me. One of the tube is very hot but one of the tube remains to be very cold. I have read up on some posts where some people say these are signs that the unit is faulty and instead it is heating up the CPU? Not exactly too sure but I have already began contacting Corsair regarding this issue. Let me know if you want me to provide any other information.

It is still under warranty, already submitted the ticket to Corsair but just wanted to see if anyone else had any other solutions that I should try. On another note. my CPU has been running like this for the past few months, how damaging is this to the CPU? Should Ibother keeping this CPU and upgrade to a new one?

Seems like you've done as much as you can, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable may have some other suggestions. Cpu should be ok as it will throttle and shutdown if it gets too hot. Other than the overheating have you noticed any issues that would lead you to believe a replacement is in order?

Replacement will be pricy, as new 6700k ate going for upwards of $300 US. I would wait until you get the new cooler and see if any other issues arise before replacement.

Thanks Gmoney! Besides from overheating its fine. It is just the overheating and throttling part getting on my nerve. I guess I'll wait for Corsair to get back to me. In the meanwhile if anybody else has other suggestions for sure let me know.

I also have a 6700k and dealing with high usage/high temps after upgrading to a 2080. Did you ever figure it out?

What's your usage and temps? Cooler?

High usage makes sense, and higher usage will usually result in the temp increase. But it shouldn't have made a huge temp difference, what was previous temps vs current?

Also you may want to make your own thread. You might get more viewers and potential answers that way.
