Hi guys any help would be greatly appreciated,

I am having an issue where I can't interact with the start button on the taskbar, time/date button in the left of the taskbar or the "control panel thing" where you change WIFI etc. I can still open pinned apps I have on the task bar and I am also able to right click on the start button however left clicking on the things stated above does not work. When I do try to click on the start button for example I just get a spinning icon next to my mouse but nothing loads.

I think this started after I was playing around with the security tab on my C drive since I though I was meant to be able to download files right to the C drive. I later found out I needed to save everything to a folder in C drive.

So far I have tried reverting my security settings on the driver back to match my D drive, however this has not worked.

I also tried restarting my computer and restarting the Windows Explorer process in task manager with no luck.

If anyone has any advise I would be very grateful as currently I can't access many apps. Thankyou!

Try running DISM and SFC command to see if they are of any help. (guide)

If they don't, you could try my weird solution;
  1. Download a Windows ISO file of the same Windows version (or higher) you're on. (here)
  2. Once finished downloading, double click on the downloaded (.ISO) file so it mounts.
  3. After that, go to the mounted file and you can double-click on the setup.exe and then wait for an install screen.
  4. Now, you can continue in that setup as if you were installing Windows, but at the end, you should chose the option, "keep all files, settings & apps".
  5. Wait for it to do it's thing, and once it's done re-installing (data isn't lost), you'll hopefully get a working taskbar.
^^^ I sometimes use this method do fix such issues, as it probably replaces Windows files(?) in the process, hopefully fixing any problems. I'm unaware of any easier methods to accomplish the above ATM, but give this a shot. :)
