Hi, our local computer supplier bigshot just brought some new memories I'm not familiar with called GEIL and priced the CL4 performance ones at the same price as the common as dirt CL5 twinmos/goodram ones. Naturally I became curious and visited their web page and they at least appear to be descent, if one could judge only by appearances and numbers.

To make things worse they priced them counter to what I'd expect.
The what appears to be above than average Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit comes at 79 euros (2x1GB set) while what appears to be their CL4 flagship DDR2 Ultra Dual Channel Kit comes at 75 euros.

Am I reading something wrong or are they simply charging the dragon eye leds extra for those eye candy kind of guys?

Would you recommend these?

Thanks!

Oh, I just saw that people keep having problems with them in conjunction with 965 mobos.

I will be using it with an Athlon 64 X2 6000+ on a GA-m57SLI-S4 (nForce 570 SLI chipset). For that price I can get either one or the no-name CL5 ones so it really isn't a matter of price but rather performance.

Erm, guys?

I really need to decide soon or I will have a perfectly good PC with no RAM to run on...

Between the two which is the better one and how do they compare to Twinmos/Transcend/Goodram etc?

Honestly, I have heard nothing but great things about Geil. The guys at the local Fry's Electronics store swear by it. They say they rarely have returns on it.

I have generally avoided Geil in the past as they did not offer any low cost alternatives. However, with their new pricing schemes, I will definitely include them in my next search.

That's good to know. But how about their Ultra vs BD model?

Which is the better one?
Price wise the BD are a little more expensive but it is the Ultra that have the Heat Spreaders...

I would say the BD is more of a marketing "packaging" type of deal. The Ultra is the one I am most familiar with. Over at Fry's they sell the Ultra and the Value, and seem to have success with both. There was no BD when I was there last week.

The BD (Black Diamond) series uses the Mircron D9 Memory chip modules, which are very good for overclocking. Also they have a Lifetime Warranty and depending out which version of the BD, you could choose either the Dual Channel or Quad Channel. Go to Geil website and look at the Specs for them and check there forum board, I do believe they list what motherboards the BD's will work with.
