Hello guys, i have some questions about hard drives:

-What is a disk case? Is it used to case an internal hard disk and use it externally?
-What is the benefit over using an external drive over an internal one for long term use?
-Is there any use of using a pci-e sata controller card if you already have one? Is this used to add more slots?

Optional:

-Is there any benefit to using a 4pin fan over a 3 pin fan?

Thanks

1. A case or external enclosure is used to turn an internal drive into an external drive.

2. The only benefit is portability. External drives can be moved from one computer to another. Also, if you have no more available internal drive slots, you can use an external.

3. A PCI-E card is used to add more SATA ports if all the ones on the motherboard are used up. If your motherboard doesn't support RAID and you want to use RAID, you can get a SATA RAID card.

4. Use a 4 pin fin on a 4 pin fan header and a 3 pin fan on a 3 pin fan header. The difference is the 4 pin uses PWM (pulse width modulation) to controll fan speed. Many newer motherboards PWM control, allowing the fan speed to be set in the BIOS or with software.
