Hello
I purchased a gtx 980ti the other day and went to install it in my computer. It was late and I forgot to turn off the power switch on the PSU first, so when I plugged it into the PCIEx16 slot, connected the power cables and hit the power button, there was a spark from the rear of the GPU. I immediately shut it down and could smell something melting/burning electronics. The GPU would not light up again and I thought i fried it. I decided to move it into the PCIEx8 slot and it lit up the standby light and I was able to power on the system with no isssues.
However I noticed an annoying buzzing/electrical noise coming from the system when under load. I at first thought it was the PSU as that's where the noise was coming from, but even after purchasing a new PSU, the sound remained. I finally went to my brothers house and swapped GPU's, only to find that my card had the same effect on his PSU/system and his card worked fine in mine.
So I'm not sure where to begin or what to do. The GPU is obviously out of warranty, but it works as it is, and the only issue is the buzzing/crackling when under load. Where should I begin looking? Thanks.
