The kinect requires no controllers the sony eye require the wand controllers. So the ps4 is more than thr xbox. Watch microsoft release a x1 without thr kinect for $379

This...

You can replace the name "Microsoft" with any big company, be it from the food industry, entertainment or technology and you would still be right. This is why quality of devices and services has gone down the drain. This is why consumer technology advances at a snail's pace. Money should not be the sole purpose of a company.

I remember how ridiculous this seemed to me when i upgraded to a Core 2 Duo CPU. I bought an E8400 (3.0 GHZ). The next model in this line was the E8500. It was a lot more expensive than mine, as the top CPU in a line usually is. When I looked at the specs I laughed. The same exact CPU, just clocked at 3,16 GHZ. I could just change settings on my motherboard and hit a stable 4.0 GHz with the E8400 using the stock cooler...

Not an XB1 fan, but that would be great. Imagine giving consumers a choice. Even though it sucks (I bought one for the kids on the PS3), at least Sony is giving a choice to buy the Eye or not.

I think we all thought Sony had originally planned to have some sort of DRM, but quickly dropped it after hearing the backlash to MS. That's a good thing right? Don't we want these companies to listen to the consumers? Imagine if MS had listened to us about Win 8 (Boot to desktop, Start button, no Metro unless you choose it, etc)?

Look, for all of the bad things Sony has done previously, they need some credit for doing the right thing this time. And so does MS, even though they did the right thing the worst way possible.

Oh, does it? Care to post a game list, so that we can compare that to Sony's?

In regards of XBone 180 vs PS4 it's too early to talk about games. What we know so far is that M$ had to revert BS DRM decision and PS4 should be about 40-50% faster due to much faster RAM and more powerful GPU, at the same time PS4 is 1.5 times smaller than XBone, while NOT using external power brick. (hopefully that doesn't mean it's noisy).

Not sure about parallel universes, but in mine Sony sold roughly the same number of consoles as M$, at the moment about 70 million PS3's and was selling about 100 million games every year as M$.

True, they had a huge advantage with PS2, but:
a) insane price
b) console coming one year later

played important role.

PS
It's not right to compare neither M$ nor Sony to Nintendo, since most money Nintendo was making was on original package. Most Nintendo buyers were not buying additional games (according to Nintendo itself). M$/Sony's customers bought 2.5 games every year on average.

I completely agree that the title for this article is very misleading. It doesn't at all say that they changed their plans. It said that they were still deciding how to move forward, when the choice became clear. Not that they were planning on sticking it to us and then changed their minds.

Let's put it this way... PS1 generation? Come in, kick the crap out of the previous big dog in gaming, outsell them by a huge margin. Huge unforeseen, surprising success!

PS2 generation? Come in as the top dog. Dominate the king from two generations ago and *massively* outsell the new upstart Microsoft. Finish the second generation you're involved in winning a generation by the largest margin of any console maker, ever.

PS3 generation? Come in riding hype from the astounding success of the PS2 and... Get utterly stomped in sales by the people you thoroughly trumped the last two gens, and spend the entire generation scrambling to reach a distant third place, making far less money than either of your competitors. Oh well, at least Blu Ray will be popular for a few years until everyone bails on it for digital distribution...

The alternate universe I'm living in is the real world. Sony's "success" this generation was to barely scrape by in third place after two generations of unmitigated domination. They did OK, yes, but after winning a gold medal twice in a row, people aren't calling you "champ" for the bronze you barely squeak out third time. Sony blew it last gen, and no-one in the Sony offices is patting each other on the back saying "What we did with the PS3 was awesome - let's emulate that business strategy again!"

http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/

This says that worldwide the PS3 has outsold the 360, mainly because of Europe. Of course, I know that not everything on the internet is accurate, so maybe you're right. I personally think that Microsoft has wasted my goodwill. No matter how much they change their policies, the fact remains that they were there in the first place. No XBOX One for me.

While VGchartz is notoriously inaccurate, it could be entirely true that globally the PS3 has *barely* out sold the 360 at this point and my point still stands pretty damned strong. Look at that link you posted and compare the N64 to the PS1, and then the original XBOX and Gamecube to the PS2. The compare the 360 and the Wii to the PS3. There is *no one* patting each other on the back for doing a great job at Sony headquarters over the dramatic shift in numbers. Whether I'm right by some small fraction of a percent I beside he point, and if you can't see that and think Sony considers the PS3 a success relative to either their initial expectations or their potential, you're dreaming. MS on the other hand? They went from a nothing in consoles to tying the top dog of two prior generations while having a much more profitable business model. Sony HQ is likely crying in their beers over this last gen, while MS HQ is popping the champagne.

The thing is, why did these numbers happen? Because Sony wiped their arses with the good will of their gaming populace last gen. In fact, they did it outside of gaming too with things like root kits and batteries lighting on fire and on and on - but the PS3 was an absolute slap in the face to gamers from their marketing to their pricing to the abysmal lack of games for the first 2.5 years... And heck, as a primary PS2 gamer, I didn't get one because half the games I cared about were coming out on the XBOX anyways (GTA, Tekken, and Final Fantasy) while it cost less and had more going on otherwise. When the PS3 actually got some decent games though, I got one and I'm quite enjoying it.

The PS3 started last generation as more of an abortion of a console than the XBOX One is now... But I doubt many of you even remember or care about that. You care about what it is now. All these big "ZOMG BOYCOTT MS FOREVARRRR EVIL COMPANY!" things will not last. As soon as it looks good to you - and let's face it, for most of you it will - you'll be getting one like I did with the significantly improved PS3. This is barring you being someone who just has a personal grudge against an evil mega corporation, and there are *many* out there on both sides.

I guess when all is said and done, I ask you, do you *really* believe that Sony won't pull this type of DRM as soon as they feel they can get away with it? Or that this type of DRM isn't the future, and will likely be matter of course within ten years? Both questions pretty much amount to, "just how naïve are you"...

We're well aware of that, moron. But as a consumer, as a CUSTOMER, I have a right to complain and not even buy a product. A smart business will try to MAXIMIZE profits and will want to know why some of us are unwilling to spend our money on their products.

The problem is most are so arrogant that, as I said, they rarely back down.

Wow, so... Someone at Sony said they didn't have any plans for it then? It MUST be true!

Kind of like here:

http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/sony-gets-ripped-bogus-psp-blog-17996

The "all I want for Christmas is a PSP" viral marking campaign which Sony ran - and denied until it was undeniably proven. Then they came out with one of the lamest responses from a company I've ever heard...

"Busted. Nailed. Snagged. As many of you have figured out (maybe our speech was a little too funky fresh???), Peter isn’t a real hip-hop maven and this site was actually developed by Sony. Guess we were trying to be just a little too clever. From this point forward, we will just stick to making cool products, and use this site to give you nothing but the facts on the PSP. Sony Computer Entertainment America.”

Wow, too funky fresh for me I guess... Let's take them at their word!

Concerning their word, let's consider a few other things Sony has said:

"Most people, I think, don't even know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it?"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal#Company_and_press_reports

Then things like this:

""The first five million are going to buy it (PS3), whatever it is, even [if] it didn't have games."" (This one ended up being true)

"[PS3 is] for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one” (justifying the ridiculous price for the PS3)

Here's another series of Sony gems:

If you believe Sony after their performance last gen, and take what they say to be true or reflective of your interests, you are a either a terribly dedicated fanboy retarded. This company has mistreated and stabbed the consumer in the back time and again and now you act like they're your best friend. MS will stab you in the back too but, hey, at last we're all willing to admit that it seems... Some of us have our heads up our asses over Sony.

You sound pretty worked up stevejnb.
This article ran on a false claim, evidence supporting the fact it was false is what I posted, and you blew a gasket...and you are calling me a retarded fanboy?
Wow buddy, you really are the walking definition of bitter.

Actually, I didn't call you anything at all. I suggested people who believe in what this company says are extremely naïve. If that's not you, you're pretty much in the clear.

Sony sometimes makes excellent products well worth having. They iie, cheat, and treat you like a commodity just like MS does. Believing otherwise and painting one to be the bad guy and the other to be some friendly organization trying to give you what you want is... Questionable judgement at best.
