My one month old Sony DRU-510A has broken.

While I was writing an ISO file, I got a write error and the read light started flashing orange repeatedly. I rebooted, still its blinking. Control panel now thinks it is SONY BOOT. The tray will not open manually or with software commands.

I have tried turning off DMA. I have tried flashing the firmware (doesn't work).

I did a google search and it seems that a LOT of people are having this problem. You have to send your drive back to Sony and they send you a new one.

Therefore, I do not recommend buying a DRU-510A at this time. There are several other dual format drives that don't seem to be having problems like this.

I've had drives do that before and i just replaced the ide cable with a high quality brand new one (major name of course).

Supporting AMD with your breakable stuff.

I tried swapping IDE cables to no avail :frown: . The Sony rep said it has become a common problem, but after this repair it should not occur again. Annoying.

One of numerous internet posts I found:
