Sony SDM-HS73 laptop does see the monitor

I am trying to set up a second screen. This monitor worked fine with my XP laptop. For this new laptop, I go to devices and "desktop" and "nothing can be sent from the laptop" is the only thing listed.

Any ideas?

Right click the desktop and go to Screen Resolution. Adjust as needed there. Another way to change that is hit the Windows key + P on the keyboard and select either Duplicate or Extend. If those options don't appear, you may be missing the required video driver to support multiple screens.
