First... they already have sub-$300 consoles that do what you are asking... call the PS3 / 360, both start at $200 nowadays. iPads and top in smart phones are not even close to a PS3, much less a PS4.

We don't know how many PS4s are bad (sabotage is floating around) - but this is not a common problem. And AS WE KNOW... 10 people who are upset are more vocal than 1000 happy customers.

Too much fanboy speak. Consoles have been around longer than the household computer (1972 Odyssey, compared to 1977 for the first home PC release). They work closely together and with Mantle coming, those that use AMD hardware can expect awesome effects with console ports (we can expect something from Nvidia at some point and time, hopefully they do whats right for the customer and join in on the Mantle fun). Although I prefer PC gaming as well, to state that consoles are on the way out is ludicrous. If anything we are starting to see a merger between the two. PC will be stronger only for a short while, soon consoles will be just as powerful as PC's and more than likely the trend of modular replacement parts will take effect, effectively allowing the console to become a true Personal Computing unit and just as powerful as the PC counterpart...and as expensive for those that wish.

Consoles aren't required to have the same amount of horsepower as an enthusiast desktop due to the same hardware being used as well as bypassing drivers, which are optimized for PC's for a multitude of different hardware configurations, with an API to squeeze every last bit of performance out of an engine that was made for consoles. With an API being created for PC, we can expect our hardware to be properly utilized, add in the possibility of Linux becoming a gaming platform (great FPS boost just going from windows to Linux alone) its only a matter of time before the divide shrinks even further.
