I have recently acquired a Reveal MusicStar music keyboard to use as an input device for Dorico, my music composition software. However, the keyboard uses an MPU-401 plug which needs to be connected to a sound card. While a sound card was included with the keyboard, it requires an old-fashioned PCI slot, which my MSI Pro Z-790-P WiFi DDR4 motherboard does not have. It does, however, have a PCI-E x1 slot, which is what I plan on using. Is there a current sound card that would work with this slot, or should I try to find a PCI-to-PCI-E adapter instead? Thanks in advance for any help and advice!

I can't vouch for this device, but it seems to meet your stated needs.

I should have mentioned that the card needs needs to have an MPU-401 plug (8-pin). Thanks for the reply, though!

I need to apologize for some erroneous information. The music keyboard cable has a 15-pin MPU-401 cable, not an 8-pin. The seller from whom I purchased the music keyboard included an XWave 5.1 sound card which does have the 15-pin terminal. Would this card work with the PCI-E x1 slot? If not, what sound cards might still be available that would work? Again, my apologies for the mistake. However, due to a recent death in my family, keeping my thoughts straight has been somewhat difficult!

Try it. Get an appropriate adapter and install the sound card. Generic drivers may suffice as I don't expect current drivers being available for the sound card.

Sorry for your loss.

After looking over my keyboard more closely, I realized that a midi-out plug to USB cable is what I need to use, rather than fooling with an MPU-401. As I soon found out, there are a number of such cables available. Can anyone recommend a cable of this type that will work with Windows 11 Pro? Again, sorry for the confusion.
