I had just installed a graphics card and it hasn't been working since then, but i'm not sure if it's related to that or not. Before I installed it I vacuumed inside my case because there was lots of dust. I was in a rush so i'm not sure if I maybe damaged a sound cable going into the motherboard by knocking against it. I guess it's possible right? I've tried taking the sound cables out a couple times and putting them in again...no luck.

Music won't play, there is no volume icon on the taskbar anymore and when I go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio tab, there is no default sound device to choose from.

The volume icon not being present in the task bar means you haven't installed the audio drivers, at ll.

Graphic card doesn't install any audio drivers as far as i know. You must be having a motherboard CD that came along with the
pc, see and install from ther. Or
Download the tool mentioned in this post Here and check the mother board chipset and download the needed drivers.

Thanks. I've googled for a driver but i'm a bit lost. I can't seem to find one specific driver I should install.

This is the chipset info from the program you told me to download...

Motherboard Chipset: Intel Q965 (Broadwater-GC) + ICH8DO

Before I installed my graphics card I had a blue icon on my taskbar which said Intel HD Audio, or something similar to that (sound worked fine back then).

When I go to Device Manager > Sounds, video and game controllers, I see something called 'AMD High Definition Audio Device'. My graphics card is AMD, so has that messed things up?
