I installed the Soundmax drivers for my P4P800. How do I get rid of
the SMAX4.EXE and SMAX4PNP.EXE processes?
I unchecked 'Show Soundmax on the task bar'. This causes the icon to
go away from the Tray, but the 2 processes are still being loaded at
startup.

you can uninstall the drivers. Downside is, you won't have sound. (unless
you add a different sound card, but then you will have other processes
running...)

Um, they are necessary. They're not chewing up CPU cycles, you want them
there.

Perhaps I phrased the question wrong. I meant that these programs are
added to my list of startup items. I hate install processes that do
this. Normally, drivers are not placed there, so I don't think they
are the drivers. According to
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?type=&filter=&count=100&offset=3300,
they don't appear to be necessary

Have a look at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
